ETNA COMMUNICATION [UPDATE n. 70]
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, announces that as of 07:30 GMT, there is a marked decrease in explosive activity at the New Southeast Crater.
The temporal trend of the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor and the location of the center of its sources do not show significant changes compared to the previous version.
The phase of increased infrasound activity, reported in the previous press release, ended shortly after 07:30 GMT.
Analysis of the data available from the permanent GNSS and inclinometric networks does not show any anomalies and variations in soil deformation over the past few hours.
Further updates will be communicated shortly.

Mount Merapi Activity Report, August 14-20, 2020
OBSERVATION RESULTS
Visual
The weather around Mount Merapi is generally sunny in the morning and evening, while the afternoon is foggy. There is white smoke, thin to thick with low pressure. A maximum smoke height of 175 m was observed from the Mount Merapi observation post in Babadan on August 17, 2020 at 10:15 a.m. WIB.
Morphological analysis of the crater area based on photos of the south-eastern sector did not show any change in the morphology of the dome. The volume of the lava dome based on measurements using aerial photos with drones from July 26, 2020 is 200,000 m3.
Seismicity
This week, the seismicity of Mount Merapi recorded
10 earthquakes of emissions (DG),
7 shallow volcanic earthquakes (VTB),
72 multiple phase earthquakes (MP),
2 low frequency earthquakes (LF),
21 avalanche earthquakes (RF),
17 tectonic earthquakes (TT).
The seismic intensity this week is relatively the same as last week.
Deformation
The deformation of Mount Merapi which was monitored by EDM this week showed a shortening of the base distance of around 1cm.
Rain and lahars
This week there was rain at Mount Merapi Observation Post with the highest rainfall intensity of 30mm / hour for 160 minutes at Kaliurang post on August 16, 2020. There was no rain. lahars or additional flow in the rivers that descend from Mount Merapi.
Conclusion
Based on the results of visual and instrumental observations, it is concluded that:
1. The lava dome is currently in stable condition.
2. The volcanic activity of Mount Merapi is still quite high and is at the “WASPADA” activity level.

Volcano Location: N 50 deg 41 min E 156 deg 0 min
Area: Northern Kuriles, Russia
Summit Elevation: 3791.68 ft (1156 m)
Volcanic Activity Summary:
A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 2.5 km a.s.l., an ash cloud is drifting to the south-east of the volcano.
This activity continues. Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft and airport of Severo-Kurilsk.

Notice Number : 2020SIN20
Volcano Location : N 03 deg 10 min 12 sec E 98 deg 23 min 31 sec
Area : North Sumatra, Indonesia
Summit Elevation : 7872 FT (2460 M)
Volcanic Activity Summary :
Eruption with volcanic ash cloud at 00h41 UTC (07h41 local). Eruption and ash emission is continuing.
Volcanic Cloud Height :
Best estimate of ash-cloud top is around 12672 FT (3960 M) above sea level, may be higher than what can be observed clearly. Source of height data: ground observer.
Other Volcanic Cloud Information :
Ash-cloud moving to east
Remarks :
Seismic activity is characterized by continuous volcanic tremor
The level of activity since May 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. WIB is at level III (SIAGA). Mount Sinabung (2460 m above sea level) has been erupting since 2013. The last sizeable eruption took place on August 19, 2020 at 6:23 pm WIB, causing an eruption column that rose 4000 meters above the Mountain peak. The color of the eruption column was observed to be gray with thick intensity, oriented to the south and southwest.
The volcano is clearly visible until it is covered in fog. The main crater emits white smoke of moderate / thick intensity, about 300 meters above the summit. The weather is cloudy and rainy, and the wind is weak to the east, southeast and south.
According to the seismographs of August 22, 2020, it was recorded:
5 emission earthquakes
27 low frequency earthquakes
1 local tectonic earthquake
1 distant tectonic earthquake
Continuous tremor of amplitude 0.5 to 20 mm, dominant value of 5 mm
1 lahar earthquake.
