Hawaii , Kilauea :

HVO/USGS Volcanic Activity Notice , Issued: Sunday, September 10, 2023, 2:52 PM HST

Volcanic Activity Summary:
Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. Increased earthquake activity and changes in the patterns of ground deformation at Kīlauea’s summit began occurring the afternoon of September 10, 2023, indicating movement of magma in the subsurface.

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is raising the volcano alert level/aviation color code for Kīlauea from ADVISORY/YELLOW to WATCH/ORANGE due to this activity.

At this time, it is not possible to say with certainty if this activity will lead to an eruption; the activity may remain below ground. However, an eruption in Kīlauea’s summit region, within Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and away from infrastructure, is one potential outcome. Based on patterns of earthquake activity and ground deformation, it is likely that any new eruptive activity will occur in or near Halemaʻumaʻu crater, within the closed area of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

Volcanic Activity Summary:
Kīlauea volcano is erupting. At approximately 3:15 a.m./p.m. HST on September 10, 2023, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory observed eruptive activity in Kīlauea summit webcam images and from field reports indicating that an eruption has commenced within Halemaʻumaʻu crater and on the down dropped block to the east in Kīlauea’s summit caldera, within Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. The eruption was preceded by a period of strong seismicity and rapid uplift of the summit

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is elevating Kīlauea’s volcano alert level from WATCH to WARNING and its aviation color code from ORANGE to RED as this eruption and associated hazards are evaluated.

The opening phases of eruptions are dynamic. Webcam imagery shows fissures at the base of Halemaʻumaʻu crater generating lava flows on the surface of the crater floor. The activity is confined to Halemaʻumaʻu and the hazards will be reassessed as the eruption progresses.

HVO will continue to monitor this activity closely and report any significant changes in future notices.

HVO is in constant communication with Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park as this situation evolves. The activity is confined entirely within the park.

Indonesia , Anak Krakatau :

An eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 12:36 p.m. WIB, the height of the ash column being observed at ± 1,000 m above the summit (± 1,157 m above the level of the sea). The ash column was observed to be gray to black in color with a thick intensity, oriented towards the northeast. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 70 mm and a duration of 232 seconds.

An eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 08:42 WIB. The height of the eruptive column was observed to be ±1,000 m above the summit (±1,157 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray to black with thick intensity, oriented southwest. At the time of writing, the eruption was still ongoing.

Notice Number: 2023-99
Volcano Location: N 56 deg 3 min E 160 deg 38 min
Area: Kamchatka, Russia
Summit Elevation: 4750 m (15580 ft)

Volcanic Activity Summary:
Satellite data by KVERT show a strong wind lifts ash from the easthern slopes of Klyuchevskoy volcano (Sheveluch’s ash from April 10-13, 2023 eruption), and a plume of resuspended ash is extending about 72 km to the east of the volcano.
The summit explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 6 km (19,700 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft.

Chile , Villarica :

Special Report on Volcanic Activity (REAV), La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions, Villarrica volcano, September 10, 2023, 12:10 p.m. local time (mainland Chile)

The National Geology and Mining Service of Chile (Sernageomin) announces the following PRELIMINARY information, obtained through the monitoring equipment of the National Volcanic Monitoring Network (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the Observatory of Volcanoes of the Southern Andes (Ovdas):

On Sunday September 10, 2023, at 11:45 a.m. local time (Sunday September 10 14:45 UTC), monitoring stations installed near the Villarrica volcano recorded an earthquake associated with fluid dynamics inside the volcanic system (type LP).

The characteristics of the earthquake, after its analysis, are as follows:

ORIGINAL TIME: 11:45 a.m. local time (2:45 a.m. UTC)
REDUCED TRAVEL: 87.62 (cm*cm)
ACOUSTIC SIGNAL: 1.7 Pascals (Pa) reduced at 1 km

COMMENTS:

The crater of the volcano could not be observed due to the cloudiness in the area. , there were no changes in the seismic behavior of the volcano following the reported event.

The volcanic technical alert is maintained at the Yellow level.

Ecuador , Sangay :

DAILY REPORT ON THE STATE OF THE SANGAY VOLCANO, Sunday September 10, 2023.
Information Geophysical Institute – EPN.

Surface activity level: High, Surface trend: No changes
Internal activity level: High, Internal trend: No changes

Seismicity: From September 9, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to September 10, 2023, 11:00 a.m.:

The number of seismic events recorded at the reference station over the past 24 hours is shown below. The level of seismic activity of the volcano remains high.

Explosion Event (EXP): 256.

Precipitation / Lahars:
Rains were recorded in the volcano area without generating mudslides or debris. In the event of heavy rains, these could remobilize the accumulated materials, generating mud and debris flows which would descend the sides of the volcano and flow into adjacent rivers.

Emissions/Ash column:
Due to weather conditions and cloud cover, it was not possible to clearly see the volcano using surveillance cameras; however, thanks to GOES – 16, it was possible to record gas emissions with a light ash load whose height was less than 800 meters at the level of the crater in the West direction.

Other Monitoring Parameters:
The FIRMS, MIROVA-MODIS and MIROVA-VIIRS satellite systems recorded 2 thermal alerts, 1 moderate thermal alert and 1 weak thermal alert over the last 24 hours.

Observation:
During the afternoon and night yesterday, the volcano remained completely cloudy, except for small episodes which allowed the recording of emission of incandescent material with their descent through the ravine up ‘at 1400 meters below the level of the crater. On the other hand, in the early morning, at the end of the morning today, the volcano is completely cloudy.

Alert level: Orange.
