Iceland , Litli Hrútur :

The Litli-Hrútur eruption is over, or rather it ended yesterday. If activity resumes after this point, it would be a new eruption.
So says volcanologist Þorvaldur Þórðarson in an interview with mbl.is.
« It’s over for now, I think it’s safe to declare. »

Probably 2-3 more eruptions
Þorvalður thinks it unlikely that the Litla Hrút eruption was the latest twist in the sequence of events on the Reykjanes Peninsula that began a few years ago.
« I think it’s more likely that we’ll have another eruption in similar places after this, maybe two or three more. »
He points out that the volcanic eruptions that have occurred on the Reykjanes peninsula in recent years are punctual.

The characteristic of attacks is that they occur in a linear fashion, thus triggering an eruption which triggers the next eruption and so on. Up to 8 rashes can often occur in similar areas. Examples that Icelanders have experienced are the eruptions of Kraflu, Krýsuvíkur, Reykjan and even Surtsey.

Volcanic eruptions of this type are different from volcanic eruptions that occur at volcanoes such as Katla and Hekla, but they are usually point eruptions which are more powerful.
We can expect at least a sabbatical year
Asked about the distance of the next eruption, Þorvalður replies that he thinks the next eruption will not take place for a year at the earliest, or longer.

« It depends on the magnitude of the influx of magma. There has been uplift since the eruption began. If we see land moving up in this area, we can expect the magma to come back. Naturally, it has to be large in order to be reissued, and that may take some time. »

Costa Rica , Poas :

Observed activity:
An eruption is observed coming from 3 different points in the lagoon. The uplifted material is rich in sediment and steam. At least 2 eruptive pulses are detected.
The plume dispersed in a West-South-West direction.
A slight tremor was detected before and stopped after the eruption

Activity Level: Warning.

Observed activity:
Yesterday at 4:55 p.m. an eruption was observed which reached a height of between 50 and 100 m. The eruption emerged from three different points in the lagoon, releasing sediment-rich material and steam. At least two successive pulses have been detected. In addition, low frequency seismic events are recorded. Geodetic observations indicate a contraction of the massif without significant vertical movement. Convection in the lake, a product of submarine fumarolic activity, continues.

Environmental conditions: The winds blow towards the South-West.

Italy , Stromboli :

Statement on Stromboli activity, 06 August 2023, 13:29 (11:29 UTC).

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, communicates that from approximately 09:00 UTC, surveillance cameras observe the gradual depletion of the modest lava overflow reported in the previous press release. Intense spattering activity persists from the northern crater area with occasional fallout from
produced outside the crater terrace.
From the seismic point of view, the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor remains, at present, in the average level. There are no significant variations in the rate of occurrence and in the amplitude of the explosion tremors.

Statement on Stromboli activity, August 06, 2023, 20:47 (18:47 UTC).

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, communicates that the intense spattering activity of the North Crater area, produced, from about 18:00 UTC, a new overflow of lava which, for the moment , remains confined to the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco. The phenomenon was observed by surveillance cameras and is still ongoing at the time of this press release.
From the seismic point of view, the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor is, currently, in the average level. There are no significant variations in the rate of occurrence and in the amplitude of the blast quakes.
No significant variation was found in the data from the ground deformation monitoring networks.

Further updates will be communicated soon.

Philippines , Mayon :

MAYON VOLCANO BULLETIN: 07 August 2023 8:00 AM

In the past 24-hour period, slow effusion of lava from the summit crater of Mayon Volcano continued to feed the established lava flows on the Bonga (southeastern), Mi-isi (south), and Basud (eastern) gullies. The lava flows have maintained their respective advances to approximately 3.4 kilometers, 2.8 kilometers, and 600 meters from the crater. Rockfall and pyroclastic density currents or PDCs generated by collapses of the lava flow margins as well as of the summit dome deposited debris still within four (4) kilometers of the crater. In total, seventy-one (71) low-frequency volcanic earthquakes or LFVQs, fifty-seven (57) tremor events having durations of one (1) to fifteen (15) minutes, nine (9) PDC, and one hundred ninety-one (191) rockfall events were recorded by the Mayon Volcano Network .

Volcanic sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission averaged 1,128 tonnes/day yesterday, 06 August 2023. Short-term observations from electronic tilt and GPS monitoring indicate a deflation of the eastern lower flanks in early July 2023 and inflation of the northwest middle flanks in the third week of July 2023. Longer-term ground deformation parameters from EDM, precise leveling, continuous GPS, and electronic tilt monitoring indicate that Mayon is still generally inflated relative to baseline levels.

Alert Level 3 is maintained over Mayon Volcano, which means that it is currently in a relatively high level of unrest and hazardous eruption within weeks or even days could still be possible

Ecuador , Sangay :

DAILY REPORT OF THE STATE OF SANGAY VOLCANO, Sunday August 06, 2023.
Information Geophysical Institute – EPN.

Surface Activity Level: High, Surface Trend: Unchanged
Internal activity level: High, Internal trend: No change

Seismicity: From August 05, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to August 06, 2023, 11:00 a.m.:

The number of seismic events recorded at the reference station over the past 24 hours is shown below. The level of seismic activity of the volcano remains high.

Explosion Event (EXP): 559.

Rains / Lahars:
Yesterday afternoon and today morning, rains were recorded in the volcano area without generating mudslides and debris. *In the event of heavy rains, these could remobilize the accumulated materials, generating mudslides and debris that would descend the flanks of the volcano and flow into the adjacent rivers.

Emission / Ash Column:
Yesterday afternoon, three emissions of gas and ash were recorded with heights between 300 and 500 meters above the level of the crater in a West-South-West direction. Washington’s VAAC agency has not issued emissions alerts for this volcano in the past 24 hours.

Gas:
The Mounts satellite system recorded a concentration of 49.5 tonnes of sulfur dioxide (SO2). This measurement was detected on 2023-08-05 at 1:43 p.m. TL.

Observation:
During the afternoon yesterday, the volcano remained cloudy. Throughout the night it remained clear, making it possible to observe through the camera system, the incandescence at the level of the crater. At the time of closing this report, the volcano is cloudy.

Alert level: Orange.
