Chile , Nevados of Chillan :

Detailed information on the volcano.
Current alert level: Yellow.

Seismic activity:
During this period, 162 earthquakes of the volcano tectonic type (VT) were classified, associated with fractures of rigid materials. Their location located them around the volcanic edifice. The most energetic VT type event had a magnitude of M 3.0 and was located 2.3 km north-northwest of the active crater at a depth of 4.0 km.

In addition, 496 earthquakes associated with fluid dynamics inside the volcanic edifice were recorded, classified as long period type events (LP), with a maximum value of reduced displacement of 305 cm2. Finally, 84 tremor-type events were recorded, with a maximum displacement value reduced by 74 cm2.

We note the persistence of the explosive activity, counting for this period 49 events, recorded intermittently, with a maximum reduced displacement of 305 cm2. The infrasound sensors recorded acoustic signals associated with explosions (EX) with maximum values and less than 12.3 Pa (reduced to 1 km as a reference).

The cameras installed in the vicinity of the volcano made it possible to view the dynamics of the explosive activity. Only 1 explosion was identified with an altitude greater than 2 km.

4 thermal alerts were also recorded in the area associated with the volcanic edifice, with a maximum radiant power of 29 MW, on April 18, 202.… / …

During the reporting period, the explosive activity was observed intermittently, with emission column heights generally less than 2 km, with abundant production of particulate materials. The production, on certain occasions, of basal pyroclastic flows, of moderate extension and projections of ballistic materials is also recorded on the surroundings of the active crater, generating a night glow. A high seismic activity is maintained, associated with fractures of rigid materials, such as a seismicity of the long period type, and in less proportion, of pulses of tremor, in relation to the explosive activity, with a strong energy. It is not ruled out a larger explosive activity, affecting part of the volcanic structure.

Japan , Nishinoshima :

Images of Nishinoshima have been published by the Japanese Coast Guard. The shooting date was April 29, 2020.

The surface of the slag cone has been renewed and sulfur deposits can be seen in places on the northeast surface of the hill.

Although this cannot be seen from the front on the image, it appears that the collapsed crater southwest of the summit that appeared on April 19 has been buried again. Imagine that the summit crater also had a small mound, or there was a pouring event before April 29.
Lava flows move clockwise through the pyroclastic cone and head south. In the distance, there is a range of lava in the North direction, and a flow towards the East coast which enters the sea .

Mexico, Popocatepetl :

May 09, 11:00 a.m. (May 09, 4:00 p.m. GMT)

In the past 24 hours, 94 exhalations accompanied by volcanic gases and sometimes small amounts of ash have been identified by the Popocatépetl volcano monitoring system. In addition, 361 minutes of low amplitude tremors and a volcano-tectonic earthquake were recorded yesterday at 3:00 p.m. with a magnitude of 1.7.

During the night, a slight glow was observed in the crater.

At the time of this report, the cloudy conditions do not allow to observe the volcano, however, any emission of water vapor, gas and ash will disperse in a northeast direction.

CENAPRED urges not to get near the volcano and especially the crater, because of the danger involved in the fall of ballistic fragments and, in the event of heavy rain, to move away from the bottom of the ravines because of the danger of mud and rubble.

The Popocatépetl volcanic alert signaling light is in YELLOW PHASE 2.

Costa Rica , Turrialba / Rincon de la Vieja / Poas :

Daily report on the state of volcanoes. OVSICORI-UNA, Date: 09 May 2020. Update 11:06:00.

Turrialba volcano:

No eruption is reported.
The seismic activity is similar compared to yesterday.
At the time of this report, the winds are blowing northwest.

Activity on the Turrialba volcano remains stable. Low-frequency, moderate, high-amplitude earthquakes with small-scale harmonic tremors are recorded. No significant deformation of the volcanic building is noted. The measured gas concentration is stable with values below 7 ppm for SO2 and the ratio between H2S / SO2 gases and CO2 / SO2 are maintained respectively 0.3 and 10

Rincon de la Vieja volcano:

On May 09, 2020 at 6:25 pm local time, an eruption was recorded on the Rincón de la Vieja volcano, the height reached by the column is unknown due to the visibility conditions of the site.
Duration of activity: 1 minute.

Ash falls: not reported
Sulfur odor: not reported

Comments: A small hydrothermal explosion was recorded. The height of the emission column is unknown due to the weather conditions on site.

Poas Volcano:

No eruption is reported.
The seismic activity is similar compared to yesterday.
At the time of this report, the winds are blowing southwest.

The activity of the Poas volcano remains stable. A constant tremor of low amplitude and 4 Hz frequency is recorded. Low-frequency, small-scale volcanic earthquakes are recorded. The volcanic gas concentration values continue to be measured and no significant deformation of the volcanic building is noted. The glow that had been observed in the fumarole located south of the crater lake has disappeared.
