Kamchatka , Klyuchevskoy :

56.06 N, 160.64 E;
Elevation 15580 ft (4750 m)
Aviation Colour Code is ORANGE

A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 16,400-23,000 ft (5-7 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft.

Strombolian activity in late January (image: Yuri Demyanchuk)

A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues, the Strombolian and gas-steam activity were noted all week. Satellite data showed a bright thermal anomaly over the summit volcanic crater all week. A gas-steam plume containing some amount of ash extended for 120 km to the east of the volcano on 23 February.

We received a note from our correspondent Yuri Demyanchuk, head of the volcano observatory in Klyuchi, that the volcano’s activity – strombolian eruption in the summit crater – has increased in the past days and that a lava flow has started on the upper SE flank.

Hawaii , Mauna Loa :

19°28’30 » N 155°36’29 » W,
Summit Elevation 13681 ft (4170 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Activity Summary:
Mauna Loa Volcano is not erupting. Rates of deformation and seismicity have not changed significantly over the past week and remain above long-term background levels.

Cones, flows, and fissures mark the uppermost portions of Mauna Loa’s northeast rift zone in the foreground of this aerial image taken by Civil Air Patrol on Sunday, October 20, 2019. In the background, Moku‘āweoweo, Mauna Loa’s summit caldera, is visible. The highest point on Mauna Loa, the true summit, is in the upper right hand corner of the image.

Observations:
During the past week, HVO seismometers recorded about 80 small-magnitude earthquakes beneath the volcano’s upper elevations. The strongest was a magnitude-2.9 event beneath the summit region in the early morning hours of February 27. Most events occurred at shallow depths of less than 5 kilometers (~3 miles) beneath the surface of the summit and upper flanks of the volcano.

Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements show continued slow summit inflation, consistent with magma supply to the volcano’s shallow storage system.

Gas concentrations at the Sulphur Cone monitoring site on the Southwest Rift Zone remain stable. Fumarole temperatures as measured at both Sulphur Cone and the summit have not changed significantly.

Nicaragua , Momotombo :

INETER reports on the recent explosions on the Momotombo.

The Nicaraguan Institute for Territorial Studies (INETER) has raised awareness of the recent volcanic activities recorded on the Momotombo, located north of Lake Managua or Xolotlán.
According to precise data issued by the Institution, the volcano recorded small explosions in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26, at a geographical latitude of 12,423 ° N and a geographical longitude of -86,539 ° E.

Activity started at 1:55 pm, when an increase in the gas emission from the volcano was observed, and later at 2:45 pm and 3:30 pm respectively, there were small gas explosions, the latter producing a small earthquake of magnitude 1.4 degrees.

INETER specifies that at present, this activity does not represent a great danger for the population, but it does not exclude that new gas explosions can occur, even with volcanic ash emissions.
As part of the government’s institutional responsibility, it is recommended that the general population be attentive to the directives issued by the country’s official entities.

Italy, Campi Flegrei :

Weekly bulletin from 18/02/2020 to 25/02/2020, (Update from 25 February 2020 at 12h00 local time)

SUMMARY OF THE ACTIVITY.

Surveillance data indicates:
1) Seismology: During the last week, an earthquake of very small magnitude (Md = -0.3) was recorded.
2) Deformation: The average value of the uplift of approximately 0.7 cm / month since July 2017 in the zone of maximum deformation showed an increase during the weeks between the end of November and the beginning of December, then returned to the usual average values, after the swarm of December 6. The lift recorded at the RITE GPS station has been approximately 60 cm since January 2011.
3) Geochemistry: The flow of CO2 from the ground measured last week did not show any significant change compared to the previous period, which confirms the persistence of the long-term trend. Last week, the temperature of the main fumarole of Pisciarelli showed an average value of around 115 ° C.

Seismology:
In the past seven days, an earthquake of Md = -0.3 has been reported located in Solfatara

Geochemistry:
The CO2 flux values from the ground recorded continuously from the FLXOV8 station in Pisciarelli (outside the North-East of Solfatara), highlight the continuous trend for several years already identified above. The flow of CO2 from the ground, measured last week, did not show any significant change compared to the previous period. Last week, the temperature of the main fumarole of Pisciarelli showed an average value of around 115 ° C, in agreement with the values recorded in previous periods. It should be noted that this fumarole being a constantly evolving natural system, with macroscopic changes in the release site, the recorded temperature may not always continuously coincide with the maximum emission temperature.
