Italy , Stromboli :

Press release on Stromboli activity, October 06, 2023, 04:15 (02:15 UTC).

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, communicates from around 01:00 UTC, images from video surveillance cameras show an intensification of splashing and explosive activity in the area of the North crater, with the formation of a lava overflow which at the moment remains confined to the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco.

From the seismic point of view, during the last 24 hours, the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor showed mainly medium values and occasionally, for short periods, also high values. Since approximately 23:30 UTC yesterday until this report, tremor amplitude has been high. No significant changes were reported in the frequency of occurrence and amplitude of explosion earthquakes.
The deformation data from the inclinometer and GNSS networks do not show significant variations.

Further updates will be communicated shortly.

Hawaii , Kilauea :

19°25’16 » N 155°17’13 » W,
Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Activity Summary:
Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. The area just south of Kīlauea’s summit is currently showing signs of elevated unrest. No unusual activity has been noted along Kīlauea’s East Rift Zone or Southwest Rift Zone. HVO will issue daily Kīlauea updates from today onward, as long as the elevated activity continues.

Summit Observations:
Rates of inflationary tilt increased two days ago in the area just south of the summit caldera. Earthquake rates beneath Kīlauea summit region have increased overnight from less than 10 earthquakes per day to over 140 earthquakes in the last 24 hours. Most of the earthquakes are occurring in a region south of the caldera at depths of around 2.5–3.5 km (1.5–2 mi) below the surface. The trend of the seismic activity parallels, but is slightly south of the December 1974 eruption vents. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rates remain low and were measured at a rate of about 150 tonnes per day on September 25.

Rift Zone Observations:
No unusual activity has been noted along the East Rift Zone or Southwest Rift Zone; steady rates of ground deformation and seismicity continue along both. Measurements from continuous gas monitoring stations downwind of Puʻuʻōʻō in the middle East Rift Zone—the site of 1983–2018 eruptive activity—remain below detection limits for SO2, indicating that SO2 emissions from Puʻuʻōʻō are negligible.

Indonesia : Ili Lewotolok

An eruption of Mount Ili Lewotolok occurred on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10:32 WITA with the height of the ash column observed at ±700 m above the summit (±2123 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity, oriented to the West. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 27.8 mm and a duration of 52 seconds.

The summit explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 6 km (19,700 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft.

Against the background of explosive activity of the Strombolian type (lava fountaining in the volcanic crater), the lava flow continue to effuse along the Apakhonchichsky chute on the southeastern slope of the volcano on 28 September, 2023.

Colombia , Puracé – Chaîne volcanique Los Coconucos :

Weekly bulletin of the activity of the Puracé volcano – Los Coconucos volcanic chain

From the monitoring of the activity of the PURACE VOLCANO – LOS COCONUCOS VOLCANIC CHAIN, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) reports that:

During the week from September 26 to October 2, 2023, seismic activity showed a similar trend to that observed in previous weeks, maintaining values above the baseline of historical activity, both in energy released and in number of recorded events.

Seismic events related to the movement of fluids in volcanic conduits predominated, located mainly under the crater of the Puracé volcano. This activity was accompanied by localized deformations in the upper part of the volcanic chain. In addition, stable values were recorded in the flow of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and high values in the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) compared to what was recorded in the second half of 2022.

The other parameters measured and used for the diagnosis of volcanic activity showed no notable changes during the period evaluated.
The alert status for volcanic activity remains at: YELLOW ALERT: ACTIVE VOLCANO WITH CHANGES IN THE BEHAVIOR OF THE BASE LEVEL OF MONITORED PARAMETERS AND OTHER MANIFESTATIONS

The COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE will continue to monitor the evolution of the volcanic phenomenon and will inform in a timely manner of any changes that may occur.
