La Réunion , Piton de la Fournaise :

Press release of January 17, 2022 – 2:45 am

The eruption that started on December 22, 2021 at 3:30 a.m. local time stopped today, January 17, 2022 at 2:10 a.m. local time (10:10 p.m. UT), following the cessation of the volcanic tremor.

No hypothesis has yet been ruled out as to the evolution of the future situation (permanent shutdown, resumption of activity on the same site, resumption of activity on another site), taking into account seismic signals which are always observed below the top.
It should be noted that reddenings are always visible and correspond to the lava tunnels which are draining.

Recommended Alert Level: Backup

STROMBOLI PRESS RELEASE .

-January 16, 2022 19:59 (18:59 UTC):

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo announces that the monitoring networks recorded a variation in the monitored parameters at 7:58 p.m. (6:58 p.m. UTC).
In particular, a thermal anomaly is observed from the surveillance cameras.

– January 16, 2022, 20:37 (19:37 UTC):

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo announces that from approximately 4:50 p.m. UTC, the images of the video surveillance cameras highlighted an intensification of the activity of explosive spatters in the area of the North crater. Although the visibility is reduced due to the cloud cover, a continuous accumulation of pyroclastic materials is observed in the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco which produces an intense rolling of large incandescent blocks to the coast. In addition, from 18:30 UTC, a small flow of rheomorphic lava is observed, which remains confined to the upper part of the Sciara del Fuoco, from which large incandescent blocks are detached.
From the seismic point of view, from 4:40 p.m. UTC, a moderate increase in the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor was observed, in the range of medium-low values. There are no significant changes in the occurrence rate and amplitude of blast earthquakes.

– January 16, 2022, 23:26 (22:26 UTC):

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo announces that the monitoring networks recorded the return of the parameters to normal activity at 23:25 (22:25 UTC). The frequency of the explosions has returned to ordinary values and the rolling of the incandescent material along the Sciara del Fuoco has ceased.
In the period that has elapsed since the previous press release, the average amplitude of the volcanic tremor has undergone a decrease, remaining however in the range of medium-low values. There are no significant changes in the occurrence rate and amplitude of blast earthquakes.

Further updates will be communicated soon.

Hawaii , Kilauea :

19°25’16 » N 155°17’13 » W,
Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Activity Summary:
The summit eruption of Kīlauea Volcano, within Halemaʻumaʻu crater, has entered another pause. All recent lava activity has been confined to the crater, and there are no indications of activity migrating elsewhere on Kīlauea .

Summit Observations:
Summit tiltmeters began recording a strong deflationary trend at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday, January 15, accompanied by drops in tremor and lava lake surface level. Similar pauses in recent weeks have ranged in duration from 1 to 3 days. A flurry of small-magnitude earthquakes recorded at the summit during recent days, at depths ranging from about 10–14 km (6–9 miles) below sea level, continues. The most recent sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate of approximately 300 tonnes per day (t/d) was measured on January 11 during the eruption pause, while a rate of approximately 3,300 t/d was measured on the morning of January 6 when the lava lake was active.

Halemaʻumaʻu Lava Lake Observations:
Lava has ceased erupting from the western vent within Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The lava lake surface level has dropped about 10 meters (33 feet) since the pause began yesterday afternoon. There has been occasional minor activity at the vent on the north side of the spatter cone, as well as overturns on the cooling lava lake surface and small lava ooze-outs along the margins of the crusted-over eastern side of the lake. The lake has seen a total rise of about 70 meters (230 feet) since lava emerged on September 29, 2021. Measurements on December 30, 2021, indicated that the total lava volume effused since the beginning of the eruption was approximately 40 million cubic meters (10.5 billion gallons) at that time.
