Chile , Nevados de Chillan :
Special report on volcanic activity (REAV) Ñuble Region, Nevados de Chillán Volcanic Complex, May 22, 2020, 12:20 p.m. Local time (mainland Chile).
The National Geological and Mining Service of Chile (Sernageomin) publishes the following PRELIMINARY information, obtained thanks to the surveillance teams of the National Volcanic Surveillance Network (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the South Andean Volcanological Observatory (Ovdas):
On May 22 at 11:36 a.m. local time (3:36 p.m. UTC), the monitoring stations installed near the Nevados de Chillán Volcanic Complex recorded an explosion associated with an LP type earthquake (Long period, commonly associated with fluid dynamics at interior of the volcanic system).
The characteristics of the earthquake after its analysis are as follows:
TIME OF ORIGIN: 11:36 a.m. local time (3:36 p.m. UTC)
LATITUDE: 36 862 ° S
LONGITUDE: 71.379 ° W
DEPTH: 0.8 km
REDUCED DISPLACEMENT: 377 cm2
ACOUSTIC SIGNAL: 23.7 Pascals (Pa) reduced to 1 km
In addition, the characteristics of the associated surface activity are as follows:
MAXIMUM COLUMN HEIGHT: 2200 meters above the point of emission
DIRECTION OF DISPERSION: North-East (NE).
Observations:
At the time of this report, the activity remains at the usual level, with the recording of a low seismicity and a low-level degassing from the active crater.
The volcanic technical alert remains at the YELLOW level.

Volcano Location: N 50 deg 41 min E 156 deg 0 min
Area: Northern Kuriles, Russia
Summit Elevation: 3791.68 ft (1156 m)
Volcanic Activity Summary:
A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosion sent ash up to 2 km a.s.l., an ash cloud is drifting to the east of the volcano.
A moderate eruptive activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft and airport of Severo-Kurilsk.

Indonesia , Semeru :
VOLCANO OBSERVATORY NOTICE FOR AVIATION – VONA.
Issued: May 24 , 2020 .
Volcano: Semeru (263300)
Current Aviation Colour Code: ORANGE
Previous Aviation Colour Code: orange
Source: Semeru Volcano Observatory
Notice Number: 2020SMR48
Volcano Location: S 08 deg 06 min 29 sec E 112 deg 55 min 12 sec
Area: East java, Indonesia
Summit Elevation: 11763 FT (3676 M)
Volcanic Activity Summary:
Eruption with volcanic ash cloud at 01h49 UTC (08h49 local)
Volcanic Cloud Height:
Best estimate of ash-cloud top is around 12403 FT (3876 M) above sea level, may be higher than what can be observed clearly. Source of height data: ground observer.
Other Volcanic Cloud Information:
Ash-cloud moving to north.
Remarks:
Eruption recorded on seismogram with duration 67 second
Level of activity at level II (WASPADA). The Semeru volcano (3676 m above sea level) is experiencing a continuous eruption. Explosive and effusive eruptions have been recorded, causing lava flows to the south and southeast slopes, and glowing rock emissions around the summit crater.
The volcano is clearly visible until it is covered with fog. There is no smoke from the crater. The weather was sunny, the wind was light in the North, East and South.
According to a seismographic recording on May 23, 2020, it was noted:
49 eruption / explosion earthquakes.
5 emission earthquakes.
Recommendation:
The community must not have activities within a radius of 1 km and the area up to 4 km in the South-South-East slope sector of the volcano which is an opening area of the active crater of G.Semeru ( Jongring Seloko) as a channel for sliding warm clouds.
Be aware of the presence of the lava dome in the Seloko Jongring crater.

Costa Rica , Turrialba / Poas / Rincon de la Vieja :
Daily report on the state of volcanoes. Date: May 23, 2020.
Updated: 10:32:00.
Turrialba volcano:
No eruption is reported.
The seismic activity is similar compared to yesterday.
At the time of this report, the winds are blowing northwest.
The Turrialba volcano has frequent LP-type earthquakes.
The SO2 concentration has now gone from low values <1 ppm in the days before to values close to 6 ppm during the early hours of the morning. The CO2 / SO2 and H2S / SO2 gas ratios also reflected an increase. There is a plume rich in water vapor.
Poas Volcano:
Poás volcano crater, on the morning of May 22, seen on the RSN surveillance camera. We mainly observe a normal column of water vapor.
No eruption is reported.
The seismic activity is similar compared to yesterday.
At the time of this report, the winds are blowing east.
The recorded seismicity activity is characterized by a discontinuous tremor.
We continue to observe a constant degassing from the main mouths and from the lake.
The CO2 / SO2 and H2S / SO2 gas ratios are kept at stable levels. At the multi-gas measurement station, the maximum concentration of SO2 decreased to 0.2, while at the point of view, the concentration was less than 1 ppm during the morning.
Rincon de la Vieja volcano:

No eruption is reported.
The seismic activity is similar compared to yesterday.
We don’t know the wind direction at the moment.
We record a continuous tremor. There is a constant degassing from the crater.
During the day yesterday and during the morning, frequent exhalations were recorded, which were reported by the inhabitants of the region.
