Philippines , Kanlaon :
An explosive eruption is currently occurring at the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano that began at 5:51 AM today, 8 April 2025. The eruption is producing a voluminous bent plume approximately 4,000 meters tall that is drifting southwest. Pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descended the slopes on the general southern edifice based on IP and thermal camera monitors. Alert level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
The area around the volcano on the island of Negros was still under evacuation orders when Tuesday’s eruption occurred.
« An explosive eruption is currently occurring at the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano that began at 5.51am today, » the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in a statement.
The volcano « is producing a voluminous bent plume approximately 4,000m tall that is drifting southwest », it said. « We were prepared for the eruption. The families within the 4km to 6km were already evacuated during the previous eruption last December, » John De Asis, a rescue official in Negros Occidental province’s La Castellana municipality, told AFP.
« Right now we are just monitoring which villages will be affected by the ashfall. »
He added they were recommending « the cancellation of classes and work in the municipality ».

Etna Activity Statement, April 8, 2025, 1:55 AM (23:55 UTC)
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, reports that, starting around 23:00 UTC, based on images from INGV-OE surveillance cameras, Strombolian activity was observed at the Southeast Crater. The forecast model for the dispersion of the potential volcanic cloud indicates a southeasterly direction.
The volcanic tremor from 18:30 UTC showed a continuous increase, reaching high values at 22:50 and continuing to increase. The sources of the tremor are located in correspondence with the Southeast Crater at an altitude of approximately 2,900 meters above sea level. The infrasound activity, which increased from 23:00 UTC, appears to be localized at the Southeast Crater. The deformation monitoring networks (GNSS and inclinometers) show no significant variations.
Further updates will be provided shortly.

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY INFORMATION STATEMENT
U.S. Geological Survey
Monday, April 7, 2025, 12:00 AM AKDT (Monday, April 7, 2025, 08:00 UTC)
58°16’44 » N 154°57’12 » W,
Summit Elevation 6716 ft (2047 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN
Strong northwesterly winds in the vicinity of Katmai and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes have picked up loose volcanic ash erupted during the 1912 Novarupta-Katmai eruption and are carrying it to the southeast toward Kodiak Island. The National Weather Service has issued a SIGMET for this low-level event and suggests that the maximum cloud height is 6,000 ft (1.8 km) above sea level.
This phenomenon is not the result of recent volcanic activity and occurs during times of high winds and dry snow-free conditions in the Katmai area and other young volcanic areas of Alaska. No eruption is in progress. All of the volcanoes of the Katmai area (Griggs, Katmai, Novarupta, Mageik, Martin, Snowy and Trident) remain at Aviation Color Code GREEN and Alert Level NORMAL. Resuspended volcanic ash should be considered hazardous and could be damaging to aircraft and health.

Iceland , Reykjanes Peninsula :
Land uplift and seismic activity continue on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
In the past 24 hours, approximately 550 earthquakes were recorded on the Reykjanes Peninsula and Reykjanes Ridge. The four largest earthquakes were around magnitude 3, located northwest of Kleifarvatn and in Reykjanestá.
GPS measurements show fairly clear signs that ground uplift has resumed at Svartsengi. At present, it is difficult to assess the rate of magma accumulation, and it may be necessary to wait a few days to assess the further development of magma accumulation beneath Svartsengi.
The map shows the earthquakes that have occurred since the start of the eruption on April 1st until today (11:00). The histograms show the number of earthquakes per day and hour that the automatic earthquake system has located since April 1st.

Chile , Laguna del Maule :
Special Report on Volcanic Activity (REAV), Maule Regions, Laguna del Maule Volcanic Complex, April 7, 2025, 6:15 a.m. local time (Continental Chile)
The National Geology and Mining Service of Chile (SERNAGEOMIN) announces the following preliminary information, obtained using the monitoring equipment of the National Volcanic Monitoring Network (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the Southern Andean Volcano Observatory (OVDAS):
On Monday, April 7, 2025, at 6:15 a.m. (10:15 UTC), monitoring stations installed near the Laguna del Maule volcanic complex recorded an increase in the occurrence of volcano-tectonic earthquakes (associated with rock fracturing within the volcanic system), reaching a total of 160 earthquakes in the last two hours, characterizing this episode. Seismic activity as a swarm of volcano-tectonic earthquakes.
The characteristics of the earthquake after analysis are as follows:
TIME OF ORIGIN: 05:54 local time (09:54 UTC)
LATITUDE: 36.098° S
LONGITUDE: 70.479° W
DEPTH: 5.3 km
LOCAL MAGNITUDE: 2.1 (ML)
Observation:
At the time of this report, seismic activity continues with low-energy events.
The technical volcanic alert remains at GREEN.
