Indonesia , Bromo :

The activity of Mount Bromo increases, an incandescence appears, people are asked to be vigilant.

This is due to an increase in Mount Bromo activity accompanied by incandescence in the crater.

Sarif Hidayat, Head of Data, Assessment and Public Relations Sub-section at Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BB TNBTS) confirmed that there was indeed an increase in activity.

« Based on information from the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the increased activity of Mount Bromo is even marked by the appearance of incandescence coming from the crater, » Sarif said through a official statement received by the Probolinggo network on Saturday February 4, 2023.

The crater glow is based on observations from February 3, 2023 around 9:14 p.m. WIB.

With Mount Bromo’s increased activity, there is concern that an unpredictable phreatic eruption may occur.

Besides the appearance of incandescence from the crater, Sarif said the increased activity of Mount Bromo was also marked by a stronger smell of sulfur.

MAYON VOLCANO BULLETIN 05 Febuary 2023 8:00 AM

In the past 24-hour period, the Mayon Volcano Network recorded one (1) volcanic earthquake and one (1) rockfall event. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission was last measured at an average of 294 tonnes/day on 18 January 2023. Based on ground deformation parameters from EDM, Precise Leveling, electronic tilt, and continuous GPS monitoring, Mayon Volcano has been slightly inflated since 2020.

Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) prevails over Mayon Volcano. The public is reminded that there is current unrest driven by shallow magmatic processes that could eventually lead to phreatic eruptions or even precede hazardous magmatic eruptions. Entry into the six (6) kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited to minimize risks from sudden explosions, rockfalls, and landslides. In case of ash fall events that may affect communities downwind of Mayon’s crater, people should cover their nose and mouth with a damp, clean cloth, or dust mask. Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from any sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft.

DOST-PHIVOLCS maintains close monitoring of Mayon Volcano and any new development will be communicated to all concerned stakeholders.

Galeras Volcano Weekly Activity Bulletin

Volcano activity continues at YELLOW LEVEL or (III): CHANGES IN THE BEHAVIOR OF VOLCANIC ACTIVITY.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the GALERAS VOLCANO, the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) reports that:

Between January 24 and 30, 2023 and compared to the previous week, seismic activity recorded low levels of occurrence, with a slight increase. The prevailing seismicity was associated with a fracture of the rock inside the volcano. The earthquakes were located in a scattered manner in the volcanic influence zone, at distances up to 12 km from the crater and at depths less than 18 km from the summit of the Galeras volcano (4200 m above sea level); the maximum magnitude was 0.7.

Favorable atmospheric conditions allowed us to observe gas emissions from various fumarolic fields of the active cone, low in height, white in color and with variable dispersion due to the action of the winds.
The other geophysical and geochemical parameters of the volcanic monitoring of the Galeras volcano did not show any significant changes.

The COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE remains attentive to the evolution of the volcanic phenomenon and will continue to report the changes observed in a timely manner.

DAILY REPORT OF THE STATE OF THE REVENTADOR VOLCANO, Saturday February 04, 2023.
Information Geophysical Institute – EPN.

Surface Activity Level: Moderate, Surface Trend: No change
Internal activity level: Moderate, Internal trend: No change.

Seismicity: From February 03, 2023, 11:00 a.m. to February 04, 2023, 11:00 a.m.:

Rains / Lahars:
There was no rain in the volcano area.

Emission / Ash Column:
This morning an emission of steam and ash was observed at a height of 300 meters, facing west. The Washington VAAC reported 3 ash emissions at heights up to 1,000 meters above crater level, in a northwesterly direction.

Gas:
The MOUNTS system detected 7.8 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), measured on 03/02/2023, at 2:13 p.m. TL.

Observation:
In the early hours of the morning, a descent of incandescent material could be observed from all sides, up to about 700 meters below the level of the crater. Currently the area of the volcano is cloudy.

Guatemala , Santiaguito :

Weather conditions: Clear weather
Wind: North-East
Precipitation: 0.0 mm.

Activity:
The observatory of the Santa María-Santiaguito volcanic complex reports activity in the Caliente dome with degassing which rises 300 meters above the dome, nocturnal incandescence, a few weak to moderate explosions accompanied by audible rumblings up to El Palmar, which raise columns of water vapor and ash several hundred meters above the dome, as well as the descent of avalanches of incandescent material towards the western, southern and southeastern flanks of the Caliente dome. Activity in the active lava flow in the Zanjón Seco and San Isidro channels continues with some boulder collapses, which generate ash clouds up to several hundred meters high.

The explosions and these collapses maintain suspended ash in the environment around the domes, producing low ashfall on the farms of Monte Claro, El Faro and La Florida, Santa Marta and El Viejo Palmar. It is recommended not to approach the lava flow, due to the intense heat it gives off and the constant collapses that occur on its edges, which could cause burns and other serious injuries to those who come close. Extrusive activity remains at a high level and continues to pile material unstable in the lava flow, as well as in the cupola of the Caliente Dome, thus maintaining the possibility that some of this material will collapse and generates pyroclastic flows that can extend to the South-West, South and East.
