Italy , Stromboli :
Statement on Stromboli activity, 19 October 2024, 09:39 (07:39 UTC) .
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, reports rock collapses along the Sciara del Fuoco.
Statement on the activity of Stromboli, 19 October 2024, 10:29 (08:29 UTC) .
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Osservatorio Etneo, reports that the seismic stations of Stromboli recorded a signal associated with a landslide lasting about 18 minutes starting at 07:31 UTC. The trend in the average amplitude of volcanic tremors is currently at a high level. The GNSS network data do not show significant variations. The inclinometric network shows a change at the TDF station (Timpone del Fuoco) starting at about 07:33 UTC. The variation is predominant along the N185°E component and of the order of 1.2 microRad. From a volcanological point of view, no observations could be made due to weather conditions.
Further updates will be communicated shortly.

Chile , Hudson :
Special Report on Volcanic Activity (REAV), Aysen Del General Carlos Ibanez Del Campo region, Hudson Volcano, October 19, 2024, 03:00 local time (continental Chile).
The National Geology and Mining Service of Chile (Sernageomin) publishes the following PRELIMINARY information, obtained through the monitoring equipment of the National Volcanic Monitoring Network (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the Southern Andean Volcanological Observatory (Ovdas):
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 02:45 local time (05:45 UTC), the monitoring stations installed in the vicinity of the Hudson Volcano recorded an earthquake associated with rock fracturing (volcano-tectonics).
The characteristics of this earthquake after its analysis are as follows:
TIME OF ORIGIN: 02:45 local time (05:45 UTC)
LATITUDE: 45.967° S
LONGITUDE: 72.993° West
DEPTH: 5.6 km
LOCAL MAGNITUDE: 3.1 (ML)
OBSERVATIONS:
Following this event, other similar earthquakes of lower energy were recorded.
The volcanic technical alert remains at the Green level.

La Martinique , Mount Pelée :
Weekly report, Paris Institute of Globe Physics / Martinique Volcanological and Seismological Observatory. Saint-Pierre, October 18, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. local time (GMT-4)
Volcanic activity remains low this week with 3 earthquakes of volcanic origin observed.
Between October 11, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. (UT) and October 18, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. (UT), the OVSM recorded 3 low-energy volcano-tectonic earthquakes. These earthquakes were clearly identified as coming from one of the well-known seismically active zones at Mount Pelée, located between 1.0 and 1.4 km deep below the summit of the volcano. The superficial seismicity of the volcano-tectonic type is associated with micro-fracturing in the volcanic edifice in connection with the global reactivation of the volcano observed since the end of 2018.
No earthquake was felt by the population.
The previous week, the OVSM had recorded 10 earthquakes of volcanic origin. As of October 18, 2024 and over the past 4 weeks, the OVSM has therefore observed a total of 50 volcanic earthquakes, or an average of 12 to 13 earthquakes per week.
During the volcanic reactivation phases of volcanoes similar to Mount Pelée, it is common to observe seismic activity that varies in intensity and frequency.
For more details on observations and interpretations of volcanic activity over the longer term, refer to the OVSM monthly bulletins.
The alert level is currently YELLOW: vigilance.

Colombia , Cerro Machín :
Manizales, October 15, 2024, 7:15 p.m.
From the monitoring of the activity of the Cerro Machín volcano, the Colombian Geological Survey (SGC), an entity attached to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, reports that:
For the week of October 8 to 14, 2024, the recording of seismicity associated with the fracturing of rocks inside the volcanic edifice continued. This seismic activity increased slightly in the number of earthquakes and in the seismic energy released compared to the previous week. The earthquakes recorded were of magnitudes less than 1 (low energy level) and were located mainly on the southwest and south flank of the volcano, at distances less than 3 km from the volcanic center. The depths of the earthquakes varied between 3 km and 9 km from the summit of the volcano.
The other parameters measured and used for the diagnosis of volcanic activity have not presented significant changes during the period evaluated.
Based on the above, the SGC recommends to closely monitor the evolution through the weekly bulletins and other information published through our official channels, as well as the instructions of the local and departmental authorities and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
The alert status due to volcanic activity remains Yellow: active volcano with changes in the behavior of the basic level of the monitored parameters and other manifestations.
