Summary:
There is currently no active lava on the ground. The north, south, and west vents continue to glow and emit flames, with minor intermittent spatter. Minor summit inflation occurred overnight. There is no anomalous activity outside of the summit.

Overview:
Glow and flames continued from the north, south, and west vents throughout the night, with minor intermittent spatter primarily from the north vent. None of the new vents along the crater wall showed any signs of activity in the past 24 hours. The small summit deflation yesterday switched to inflation around 6 p.m. HST last night, gaining 0.5 microradians through this morning. Tremor bursts continue to be the dominant seismic signal across the summit. No anomalous seismic activity or deformation has occurred outside of the summit region.

No significant activity has been noted along Kīlauea’s East Rift Zone or Southwest Rift Zone. However, tiltmeters on the East Rift Zone did minor excursions triggered by heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. These changes are not related to magma movement.

Summit Observations:
Glow and flames continued all night from the north-south-west vent complex. No obvious changes in the intensity of glow from the vents could be detected. Minor intermittent spattering occurred overnight primarily from the north vent.
Strong tremor bursts continue this morning and are the dominant seismic signal across the summit. There were nine earthquakes located across the summit region but do not form clusters in time or location and are all small magnitude.

The magnitude-4.1 earthquake that occurred last night south of Pāhala had no apparent impact on eruptive activity on Kīlauea.

The summit resumed inflating around 6 p.m. HST yesterday and continues this morning, recording an increase of about 0.5 microradians. The total inflation since the end of episode 54 is currently about 14.5 microradians, over a microradian more than was lost during episode 54 fountaining.
During inter-episode pauses, the sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate from the summit typically varies between 1,000 and 5,000 tonnes per day.

Rift Zone Observations:
Rates of seismicity and ground deformation remain low in the East Rift Zone and Southwest Rift Zone. SO2 emissions from the East Rift Zone remain below the detection limit. No significant ground deformation was recorded in either rift zone, however, tiltmeters on the East Rift Zone did show typical, minor excursions related to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. These changes are not related to magma movement.

Indonesia , Ili Lewotolok :

An eruption of Mount Ili Lewotolok occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 12:24 PM (WITA), with an ash column reaching a height of approximately 600 m above the summit (or ±2,023 m above sea level). This column, ranging in color from white to gray and of moderate to high density, drifted westward. The eruption was recorded by the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 42 seconds.

Seismic observations
226 eruption earthquakes, with amplitudes of 33.2–40 mm and durations of 23–87 seconds.
2 avalanche earthquakes, with amplitudes of 8.8–11.1 mm and durations of 47–84 seconds.
198 emission earthquakes, with amplitudes of 16.6–40 mm and durations of 26–48 seconds.
4 episodes of non-harmonic tremor, with amplitudes of 11.1–40 mm and durations of 100–406 seconds.
1 shallow volcanic earthquake, with an amplitude of 4.4 mm and a duration of 8 seconds.
2 distant tectonic earthquakes, with amplitudes of 11.1–16.6 mm and durations of 66–84 seconds.

Recommendations
1. Communities living near Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors, hikers, and tourists, are advised not to enter or conduct activities within a 2 km radius—and a 3 km radius in the southern and southeastern sectors—of the Mount Ili Lewotolok activity center.
2. Remain vigilant regarding potential hazards associated with lava avalanches and pyroclastic flows in the southern, southeastern, western, and northeastern sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Philippines , Kanlaon :

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported continuing eruptive activity at Kanlaon during 10-16 September. The seismic network recorded 0-9 daily volcanic earthquakes. Sulfur dioxide emissions ranged from 1,085 to 4,074 tonnes per day. Volcanic emissions generally rose as high as 900 m above the summit and drifted E, NE, and S on most days. A total of six ash emissions were recorded during 10-14 September, each lasting 38 to 88 minutes long. The Alert Level remained at 2 (on a scale of 0-5); the public was warned to stay out of the 4-km-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and pilots were advised to avoid flying close to the summit.

Kanlaon volcano (also spelled Canlaon) forms the highest point on the Philippine island of Negros. The massive andesitic stratovolcano is covered with fissure-controlled pyroclastic cones and craters, many of which are filled by lakes. The largest debris avalanche known in the Philippines traveled 33 km SW from Kanlaon. The summit contains a 2-km-wide, elongated northern caldera with a crater lake and a smaller but higher active vent, Lugud crater, to the south. Eruptions recorded since 1866 have typically consisted of phreatic explosions of small-to-moderate size that produce minor local ashfall.

Costa Rica , Rincón de la Vieja :

OVSICORI-UNA Weekly Volcanic Monitoring Bulletin, September 18, 2026

Latitude: 10.83° N;
Longitude: 85.34° W;
Elevation: 1,916 m above sea level.
Current activity level: Caution.

During this week, 37 eruptions were recorded; only two reached an acoustic magnitude greater than 4 (moderate). The majority of these eruptions were of low magnitude. The eruption on September 18 at 02:16 exhibited the highest acoustic magnitude of the week and triggered a small syn-eruptive lahar (generated by the eruption). Low-frequency background tremor (0.7–2.5 Hz) persists but showed amplitude variations throughout the week. On September 11, a sequence of low-frequency « banded tremors » was observed, with some associated with eruptions. The number of long-period and « tornillo »-type signals remains stable. An increase in events associated with rock fracturing has also been noted, occurring both in the immediate vicinity of the crater and at greater distances.

Summit contraction and subsidence have been observed; however, stations located to the west and north of the volcano indicate basal extension without significant uplift. The average SO2 flux for the week is 390 ± 155 t/d, with a maximum value of 6,153 t/d. These figures represent a slight increase in SO2 emissions compared to the previous week, when the average flux was 293 ± 103 t/d, with a maximum of 3,586 t/d. These values ​​are above the volcano’s baseline. The most recent atmospheric detection of SO2 emitted by the Rincón de la Vieja volcano was made by the Sentinel satellite on September 7, 2025.

Colombia , Galeras :

Regarding the monitoring of Galeras volcano activity, the Colombian Geological Service (SGC)—an agency attached to the Ministry of Mines and Energy—reports the following:

During the week of September 8 to 14, 2026, the main variations in monitored parameters compared to the previous week were as follows:
● Seismic activity remained at similar frequency levels, with a predominance of events associated with rock fracturing. Regarding energy release, there was an increase due to two earthquakes felt within the volcano’s zone of influence; the first was recorded on September 12 at 2:41 PM, with a magnitude of 3.0, located 5.5 km northeast of the Galeras crater and at a depth of 6.5 km below the summit (4,200 m above sea level); the second earthquake was recorded on September 13 at 3:48 PM, with a magnitude of 2.9, located 17.7 km northeast of the Galeras crater and at a depth of 5.0 km below the summit. Two other low-energy events were located at scattered points across the Galeras edifice, within a 5.4 km radius of the volcanic crater; they had a maximum magnitude of 1.4
and a maximum depth of 6.9 km.

● Low-altitude emissions of white gas were recorded and dispersed according to wind direction. These emissions originated primarily from the fumarole fields within the main crater and the « Las Chavas » area to the west.
● Other volcanic monitoring parameters remained stable.

In light of the above, the SGC recommends closely monitoring the situation via weekly bulletins and other information released through official channels, and adhering to the instructions of local and departmental authorities as well as the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
Volcanic activity remains at the yellow alert level: an active volcano showing behavioral changes relative to the baseline of monitored parameters, along with other manifestations.
