Earthquake activity continued in the vicinity of Trident Volcano over the last 24 hours at a rate above background levels. No volcanic activity was observed in cloudy to partly cloudy satellite and web camera data.

Aerial view of Trident volcano with persistent degassing features on the crater rim of Southwest (New) Trident and the southeast flank of Trident I circled in red.

The current period of seismic unrest began on August 24, 2022. Increases in seismic activity have been detected previously at Trident Volcano and other similar volcanoes, with no subsequent eruptions. We expect additional shallow seismicity and other signs of unrest, such as gas emissions, elevated surface temperatures, and surface deformation, to precede any future eruption if one were to occur.

Mexico , Popocatepetl :

April 30, 11:00 a.m. (April 30, 5:00 p.m. GMT)

In the past 24 hours, according to the monitoring systems of the Popocatépetl volcano, 65 exhalations accompanied by water vapor, volcanic gases and ash have been detected, as well as 103 minutes of high frequency and low amplitude tremors.

Similarly, a small explosion was recorded yesterday at 11:50 p.m. local time.

Explosions that occur on Popocatépetl or any active volcano are accompanied by seismic and sound signals, the latter recorded by means of pressure detectors or microphones. It is possible to hear them with different levels of intensity, depending on the atmospheric factors at the time of the events or the morphological conditions of the crater. This is a normal phenomenon and is not necessarily an indication of increased volcanic activity. It should be noted that in the current state of Popocatépetl, characterized by the formation of small lava domes, and their subsequent destruction by explosions, mainly of small to moderate size, it is likely that in the next days or weeks the population near the volcano will perceive these audible phases.

During the morning, and at the time of this report, an emission of volcanic gases and ash was observed in an East-Northeast direction.

CENAPRED insistently reiterates the recommendation NOT TO CLIMB to the crater of the volcano, because there is the possibility of explosions, as we have seen on several occasions in the past, involving the emission of incandescent fragments. Therefore, he is required to respect the exclusion radius of 12 km. Also, in heavy rain, stay away from the bottom of ravines due to the danger of mudslides and debris.

The Popocatépetl volcanic alert traffic light is in YELLOW PHASE 2.

Puracé Volcano Weekly Activity Bulletin – Los Coconucos Volcanic Range

From the monitoring of the activity of the PURACÉ VOLCANO – VOLCANIC CHAIN OF LOS COCONUCOS, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) reports:

During the week of April 18-24, 2023, seismic activity showed stable behavior, with a total of 976 earthquakes, of which 114 were associated with rock fracturing processes and 862 with fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits. This process was accompanied by a deformation of the soil of the volcanic edifice associated with a process of inflation. Degassing of the volcanic system was highlighted, with a white column preferentially oriented towards the northwest, with a maximum sulfur dioxide (SO2) flow rate of 661 t/d and a maximum concentration of 20437 ppm for sulfur dioxide. carbon (CO2) in the area of the crater of the Puracé volcano as well as a significant increase in the degassing of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the San Juan region. These values are important in the degassing process of this volcanic system relative to its baseline.

The other parameters measured and used for the diagnosis of volcanic activity did not show significant changes during the period evaluated.
Volcanic activity continues to record variations which could evolve towards higher levels of activity.

The activity level of the volcano remains at:

Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Activity Summary:
Kīlauea volcano is not erupting, and no active lava has been observed since March 7, 2023. Inflationary tilt in the summit region slowed yesterday afternoon and instruments have tracked deflationary tilt so far today. Summit seismicity remains elevated. No significant changes have been observed along either of the volcano’s rift zones over the past day.

Halemaʻumaʻu Crater Observations:
No active lava has been observed over the past day.

During a morning visit to Halema‘uma‘u rim on April 14, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologists had clear views across Kīlauea summit caldera. Kīlauea stopped erupting on March 7; currently, only steam and minor gas emissions are being emitted at the summit.

Summit Observations:
Two HVO tiltmeters—at Uēkahuna and southwest of the summit at Sand Hill—were tracking accelerated inflationary tilt yesterday morning, but this slowed in the afternoon. The instruments have tracked minor deflationary tilt so far today. Small flurries of earthquakes have occurred irregularly beneath Halemaʻumaʻu, Keanakākoʻi Crater, and the southern margin of Kaluapele (Kīlauea caldera) since April 16, including a significant uptick early yesterday morning. This continued through the period of sharper inflationary tilt before diminishing slightly yesterday afternoon. Rates of summit earthquakes remain elevated, and continued earthquake flurries are possible. The most recent sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate of approximately 75 tonnes per day was measured on April 26.

Mexique , Popocatepetl :

30 avril, 11h00 (30 avril, 17h00 GMT)

Manizales, April 29, 2023, 9:55 a.m.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the NEVADO DEL RUIZ VOLCANO, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) informs that:

Yesterday April 28, the seismicity associated with the movement of fluids and the fracturing of the rock within the volcanic edifice, generally maintained a similar behavior in terms of number of earthquakes and seismic energy compared to the day before. . The seismicity was localized in the Arenas crater and its surroundings, within a radius of less than 2.5 km measured from there. According to the web cameras used for volcanic monitoring, several pulsating ash emissions have been confirmed, with a direction of dispersion towards the southwest and northwest of the volcano.

During the last hours, there has been a predominance of seismic activity associated with the movement of fluids inside the volcanic conduits, which has been associated with the emission of ash. At 07:38 this morning, a confirmed pulsating ash emission was recorded by the web cameras, with a column height of 1100 m and a direction of dispersion towards the West-South-West.
Finally, the degassing of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere and the release of water vapor from the volcano continue. Although yesterday and until today it has not been possible to detect the
thermal anomalies by satellite monitoring platforms, mainly due to atmospheric conditions, it is important to mention that this does not mean that they do not continue to be present at the bottom of the crater.

Therefore, we reiterate that the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues at the ORANGE LEVEL, which indicates that there is a probability that in days or weeks it will present a stronger eruption than it does. has done over the past 10 years.

Seismology
The seismological activity of the period was characterized by the recording of:
198 VT-type seismic events, associated with rock fracturing (Volcano-Tectonics). The most energetic earthquake presented a value of local magnitude (ML) equal to 1.9, located 0.8 km east-south-east of the volcanic edifice, at a depth of 2.4 km from the crater.
92 LP-type seismic events, associated with fluid dynamics within the volcanic system (Long Period). The size of the largest earthquake assessed from the Reduced Displacement (DR) parameter was equal to 7 cm2.
14 TO-type seismic events, associated with fluid dynamics within the volcanic system characterized by its particular waveform (Tornillo). The size of the largest earthquake (DR) was equal to 9 cm2.

Geodesy
The deformation-related activity, during the period evaluated, was characterized by:
– Subtle modification of the surveillance line which crosses the crater from North to South, with a rate not exceeding 0.1 cm/month.
– The data processed with the PUNA station does not show any changes related to the deformation of the volcanic edifice. In general, minor variations that do not suggest deformations produced by the internal activity of the volcanic system.

Surveillance cameras
A permanent degassing of the active crater was recorded, with variable intensity and heights, up to 940 m (April 6). During the night hours, degassing is maintained without
incandescence, clearly visible given the favorable atmospheric conditions. No pyroclastic emission was recorded.

Satellite geomorphological analysis
From the observation of Skysat Collect, Planet Scope and Sentinel 2-L2A satellite images, the degassing of the active crater and the variations around its internal walls associated with rockfalls are identified. No other significant morphological change is identified.

YELLOW TECHNICAL ALERT: Changes in volcanic activity behavior
Observation: The possible assignment area is maintained within a radius of 5 km around the active crater.

 Guatemala , Santiaguito :

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy
Wind: North-West
Precipitation: 103.4 mm.

Activity:
The observatory of the Santa María-Santiaguito volcanic complex reports activity in the Caliente dome with weak degassing 500 meters above its dome, which disperses to the southeast. There are frequent weak explosions accompanied by barely audible rumblings in the neighboring farms, which raise columns of water vapor and ash to heights between 500 and 1,000 meters above the dome, as well as the descent flows of blocks and ashes towards the western, southern, eastern and northern flanks of the Caliente dome. The incandescence of these flows is visible at night and in the early morning.

Explosions and flows keep the ash suspended in the environment around the domes, with the possibility of producing low ashfall on El Faro, La Florida, Paztulín, Santa Marta, as well as Viejo Palmar farms. It is recommended not to approach the lava flow in the Zanjón Seco and San Isidro channels, due to the intense heat it emits and the collapses that still occur on its edges, which could cause burns and other serious injury to those who approach it. The activity remains at a high level and continues to pile up material in an unstable manner on the cupola of the Caliente dome, as well as along the lava flow, so the possibility, with the explosions or under the effect of gravity, some of this material collapses and long-distance pyroclastic flows are generated to the southwest, south, and east.

Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Activity Summary:
Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. No active lava has been observed since March 7, 2023. Over the past day, no significant changes have been observed at the summit or along either of the volcano’s rift zones. A magnitude-4.2 earthquake near Pāhala yesterday afternoon had no apparent impact on Kīlauea.

Halemaʻumaʻu Crater Observations:
No active lava has been observed over the past day.

Early in the morning on Friday, April 21, two crews of geologists from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory flew via helicopter into Halema‘uma‘u crater at the summit of Kīlauea to collect geologic samples. One crew visited the crater floor to sample cooled lava from the 2020–2023 summit eruptions, and another crew scaled part of the crater’s northwest wall to sample ash beds and lava flows dating back many thousands of years in the volcano’s past. Both crews witnessed a spectacular sunrise from inside the crater, as captured in this panorama from the base of the northwest wall.

Summit Observations:
Uēkahuna tiltmeter has tracked slight inflationary tilt over the past day. Small flurries of earthquakes have occurred irregularly beneath Halemaʻumaʻu, Keanakākoʻi Crater, and the southern margin of Kaluapele (Kīlauea caldera) since April 16. Earthquake activity in the summit region remains slightly elevated. A sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate of approximately 75 tonnes per day (t/d) was measured yesterday, April 26.

Rift Zone Observations:
No unusual activity has been noted along the East Rift Zone or Southwest Rift Zone; steady rates of ground deformation and seismicity continue along both. Measurements from continuous gas monitoring stations in the middle East Rift Zone, the site of 1983–2018 eruptive activity, remain below detection limits for SO2.

Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Seismicity beneath Aniakchak volcano remained above background levels over the past week, with occasional small earthquakes continuing to occur. The largest earthquakes had magnitudes between 1 and 3. The earthquakes are occurring below the center of the caldera and to the east of the volcano at depths shallower than about 4 miles (6 km).

No other signs of volcanic unrest were observed in satellite or webcam images over the last week, and no new satellite radar data were available to verify if recent ground inflation has continued.

Aerial view of snow-covered, 6-mile-wide, Aniakchak Caldera on the Alaska Peninsula. View is towards the north-northeast. Aniakchak last erupted in 1931. Chiginagak Volcano is the high peak on the far right horizon.

Increases in seismic activity and surface deformation have been detected previously at other similar volcanoes, with no subsequent eruptions. We expect additional shallow seismicity and possibly other signs of unrest, such as gas emissions, elevated surface temperatures, and additional changes in surface deformation to precede any future eruption, if one were to occur.

AVO monitors Aniakchak with a local network, which consists of six seismometers, a web camera, and a single infrasound sensor, as well as satellite remote sensing data and regional infrasound and lightning networks. Several of the seismic stations, however, stopped transmitting data on March 4 due to low power levels. Another seismometer on the volcano stopped transmitting data on April 21 due to presumed snow cover and low power levels. A new seismometer was installed in Port Heiden on April 12, so two local seismic stations are now in operation. We are unable to locate smaller earthquakes due to the outages. A new webcam was also deployed in Port Heiden.

Chiles and Cerro Negro Volcanic Complex (CVCCN) Weekly Activity Bulletin

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the VOLCANOES CHILES AND CERRO NEGRO, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) informs that:

Between April 18 and April 24, 2023, the number of earthquakes increased compared to the previous two weeks, maintaining similar energy levels. Although the predominance of seismicity associated with rock fracture persists in various sectors of the volcanic edifices, it is also pointed out that the significant record of fluid dynamics-related events within the volcanic system continues.

The vast majority of fracture earthquakes were located south of the Chiles volcano at distances up to 4 km, with depths less than 6 km from its summit (4700 m altitude). This week, the recording of 5 events with magnitudes greater than 2.5 stands out, including those recorded on April 23 at 8:12 p.m. and April 24 at 12:35 a.m. with magnitudes of 3.1 and 3.2 respectively, which were reported as being felt by residents residing in areas near the CVCCN.

The deformation processes continue, recorded both by sensors installed on the volcanoes, and by the analysis of satellite images.
In the fluctuating behavior of the complex, the possibility of high-energy earthquakes that can be felt by the inhabitants of the zone of influence is not excluded.

The activity level of the volcanoes remains at:

Aviation Colour Code is ORANGE

An extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. A danger of ash explosions up to 10 km (32,800 ft) a.s.l. is remains. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

A growth of the lava dome continues, a strong fumarole activity, an incandescence of the lava dome, and sometimes explosions accompanies this process. According to KVERT data, the paroxysmal eruption continued on 10-13 April, ash and aerosol clouds moved more than 3,000 km east of the volcano, but to date on 21 April, the aerosol cloud is located in the middle part of the Greenland Island.

The result of the paroxysmal explosive eruption of the Sheveluch volcano on 10-13 April, 2023: a large crater in place of the lava dome that has been forming since 1980.

On 14-15 April, ash removal up to 6 km a.s.l. from the volcano continued, ash plumes moved for 700 km to the northwest of the volcano. On 17 April, resuspended ash lifted by the wind from the slopes of Sheveluch volcano and volcanoes of the Klyuchevskaya group (ashes of Sheveluch volcano deposited on 10-13 April) rose up to 4 km a.s.l. Plumes of resuspended ash extended for 224 km northwest of the volcano. A thermal anomaly was observed over the volcano all week.

Colombia , Nevado del Ruiz :

Manizales, April 27, 2023, 9:50 a.m.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the NEVADO DEL RUIZ VOLCANO, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) informs that:

Yesterday April 26, the seismic activity associated with the fracturing of the rock inside the volcanic edifice increased compared to the day before (April 25). The earthquakes were located mainly in the northeast and east sectors of the volcano, at depths between 2 and 3.5 km. The maximum magnitude was 1.4 corresponding to the 9:48 p.m. earthquake, located 0.9 km northeast of the crater, at a depth of about 3 km. Regarding the seismic activity related to the movement of fluids inside the volcanic conduits, it showed similar levels of seismic energy, compared to the day before and was associated with pulsatile ash emissions which were confirmed by web cameras used for volcanic monitoring.

The maximum height of the column of gas and / or ash observed was 1800 m measured from the summit of the volcano corresponding to the emission of ash recorded yesterday at 03:14, with the direction of dispersion of the column towards the South-West. Significant thermal anomalies continue at the bottom of the crater, which could be observed from satellite monitoring platforms, as well as the degassing of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere and the release of water vapor from the volcano.
All these indicators ratify what the SGC has reiterated: that the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues to be very unstable. It is possible that the levels of seismic activity, as well as the levels of degassing or ash production, decrease or oscillate, in the direction of increasing on some days and decreasing on others. However, this does not mean that the volcano has returned to its normal level of activity.

Therefore, we reaffirm that the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues at the ORANGE LEVEL.

La Réunion , Piton de la Fournaise :

Press release from the Paris Institute of Earth Physics, Piton de la Fournaise Volcanological Observatory, April 24, 2023 – 08:30 (local time) – 04:30 (UTC time)

Following the seismic crisis of April 21, seismicity is still recorded under the summit zone of Piton de La Fournaise, with respectively 7 and 14 volcano-tectonic earthquakes under the summit zone for the days of April 22 and 23, 2023.

At the same time, the inflation (swelling) of the volcano, observed for several weeks, continues. This testifies to the continued replenishment of the superficial reservoir (located 1.5-2 km deep) by deeper magma. But since the cessation of the seismic crisis and the cessation of deep magma intrusion on April 21, no movement of magma from this reservoir
towards the surface is not to be noted.
The recharge process from the depths to the superficial reservoir can take several days to several weeks before the roof of the reservoir weakens again and ruptures, thus giving rise to a new injection of magma towards the surface, but can also stop without giving rise to an eruption in the short term.

Italy , Stromboli :

WEEKLY BULLETIN, from April 18, 2023 to April 24, 2023. (issue date 26 April 2023)

ACTIVITY STATUS SUMMARY

In the light of the monitoring data, it is highlighted:
1) VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS: Normal Strombolian activity was observed during this period. The total hourly frequency oscillated between low average values (8 events/h) and medium-high values (16 events/h). The intensity of the explosions was mainly low to medium in both the North Crater area and the Center-South Crater area.
2) SEISMOLOGY: The seismological parameters monitored do not show any significant variations.
3) GROUND DEFORMATIONS: The island’s ground deformation monitoring networks did not show any relevant variations during the week under review. Exclusively, the inclinometer station of Timpone del Fuoco recorded on April 23 a variation of less than one microradian.
4) GEOCHEMISTRY: the flow of SO2 is at an average level
The CO2 streams show average degassing values.
The C/S ratio is on very high values around 21.
The isotopic ratio of the helium dissolved in the thermal wells is at average values with an R/Ra equal to 4.3 (last sampled on 03/17/2023).
5) SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS: The thermal activity observed from the satellite was generally weak.

VOLCANOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS
During the observation period, the eruptive activity of Stromboli was characterized thanks to the analysis of the images recorded by the surveillance cameras of the INGV-OE at an altitude of 190m (SCT-SCV) and of the Pizzo . The explosive activity was mainly produced by 2 (two) eruptive vents located in the North zone of the crater and by 3 (three) vents located in the Center-South zone. Due to the unfavorable weather conditions of April 17 and 18, the visibility of the crater area was insufficient for a correct description of the eruptive activity.

Observations of explosive activity captured by surveillance cameras
In the area of the North crater (N), with a vent located in the N1 sector and one in the N2 sector, an explosive activity of low intensity (less than 80 m in height) to medium intensity (less than 150 m in height) was observed emitting coarse materials (bombs and lapilli) sometimes mixed with fine materials (ash). The average frequency of explosions varied from 2 to 9 events/h.
In the Center-South (CS) area, the S2 sector, with two active vents, showed explosive activity of mainly low to medium intensity emitting fine materials sometimes mixed with coarse materials. Sector C and sector S1 did not show significant eruptive activity. The average frequency of explosions varies between 2 and 7 events/h.

Field observations following the site visits of April 21 and 22, 2023
On April 21, researchers from the INGV-OE in Catania carried out an inspection in the summit area of Stromboli, during which the explosive activity and the morphology of the craters were observed (Fig. 3.3 a), samples fresh lapilli were collected and some data collection stations were maintained.
In the N zone of the crater there was, near the N1 zone, what remains of a small cone with at least 2 active vents, one of which emitted Strombolian explosions rich in shreds of magma, while the other vent produced explosions of ash mixed with small amounts of shreds of magma. At least one vent with violent and frequent ash emissions was active in the N2 area. In the central area there was a small cone with 2-3 degassing vents in an almost central position, and a smaller and probably cracked area, also degassed and more displaced towards the Pizzo (and therefore partly covered by the edge of the crater), which during our observations did not deliver any products.

Overview of the crater terrace seen from the Pizzo with the names of the sectors. b) Photo of the N crater area seen from the altitude of 400m. In red the boundaries of the two detachment niches

In the South zone, there was, from the North-East to the South-West, a small hornito characterized by modest and rare explosions, a vent which produced weak Strombolian explosions with a very variable but always low frequency, and a vent at the edge of the terrace with frequent ash emissions. From the southern area of the crater came very violent jets of gas apparently not associated with the emission of products. Finally, at vent S1, a hornito was present which emitted a generally weak degassing, sometimes associated with “smoke rings”. Due to the unfavorable wind direction, it was not possible to sample the products of the observed activity, however very fresh subcentimetric lapilli were sampled on the way between Elipista and the Pizzo, probably correlated to the activity from April 17-18 when the weather also favored the fall of ashes in the municipality of Stromboli.
Finally, on Saturday morning April 22, an inspection was carried out at 400 m (Labronzo side) to observe the morphology of the Sciara del Fuoco, where 2 large « detachment niches/slip surfaces » were evident under the N zone of the crater (Fig. 3.3 b, boundaries in red), while frequent rollings of blocks towards the sea were observed along the « canyon », both immediately after the explosions and in periods when there was no explosive activity.

Altitude: 1,916 meters

Observed activity:
The activity of the volcano continues with frequent eruptions. The last occurred at 5:28 am and produced a column of water vapor up to 800m above the crater. Seismicity shows a continuous tremor of low frequency and high amplitude.

Environmental conditions:
westerly winds; clear weather

Activity Level: Warning (2)

OVSICORI-UNA reported that phreatic eruptions, detected seismically but often with observed emissions, continued to occur at Rincón de la Vieja during 18-25 April. Several eruptive events recorded during 18-21 April produced gas-and-steam emissions that rose as high as 1.5 km above the crater rim. A strong eruptive event at 1550 on 21 April generated a dense plume of material that rose 500 m above the crater rim and then collapsed, producing a pyroclastic flow and lahars on the N flank. A steam-and-gas plume with minor ash content rose 4-5 km above the crater rim. Strong tremor levels and near-continuous gas emissions were recorded after the event. That same day OVSICORI-UNA noted that during the previous week sulfur dioxide emissions were 221 tons per day on average, though emissions spiked to close to 5,000 tons per day after several of the phreatic events. During 22-24 April nearly continuous gas emissions continued to be visible and strong tremor continued to be recorded by the seismic network. Small phreatic events were recorded at 19h04 on 22 April and at 00h54 and 06h29 on 24 April. Small phreatic events at 22h50 on 23 April and 06h30 on 24 April produced steam-and-gas plumes that rose no higher than 500 m above the crater rim.

Indonesia , Karangetang :

Decrease in Karangetang activity level from level III (SIAGA) to level II (WASPADA)

Visual observation
White smoke from the crater is observed with low to moderate intensity, the maximum height of the smoke column reaches 200 m above the summit. Effusive eruptions were observed until April 1, 2023, no more avalanches were observed. At night, the summit still shows visible incandescence about 10 m high. The state of the North crater observed at night still shows a silent incandescence in the body of the lava dome, no avalanche is observed.

Instrumental observation
Seismicity during the period from April 1 to 25, 2023 recorded:
61 avalanche earthquakes,
20 emissions earthquakes,
110 hybrid/multi-phase earthquakes,
76 shallow volcanic earthquakes,
19 deep volcanic earthquakes,
25 local tectonic earthquakes,
2 earthquakes felt on the I – MMI scale
192 distant tectonic earthquakes,
15 Continuous Tremors.

Assessment
The effusive eruption of G. Karangetang showed a decrease, no lava flows and lava avalanches were observed. The avalanche earthquake type seismicity which is an indication of an effusive eruption (fluid lava), has decreased since April 6, 2023, no avalanche earthquake has been recorded. Judging, it is possible that the magma supply has diminished or the driving energy is not strong enough for the lava to come out, as the multi-phase earthquakes begin to increase.
Beware of hot clouds descending where the old lava dome is still at the top and may collapse at any time. Another characteristic of hot clouds descending over Karangetang is to occur from the accumulation of settled/slippery material.

Potential threat of danger
Accumulation of material resulting from effusive eruptions in valleys, incandescent lava flow/avalanche paths has the potential to cause lahars to descend downstream, so awareness is required for people living around her and those who will cross the valleys/rivers during rain at the top.

Colombie , Nevado del Ruiz :

Manizales, 27 avril 2023 , 09h50 .

Conditions environnementales:
vents d’Ouest ; temps clair

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER, from April 03, 2023 to April 09, 2023 (issue date April 11, 2023)

ACTIVITY STATUS SUMMARY

In the light of the monitoring data, it is highlighted:
1) Temperature of the crater fumaroles: The temperatures recorded on the edge of the crater remain at high values compared to those preceding the current crisis.
2) CO2 fluxes in the crater area: stable CO2 fluxes on medium-high degassing values (about 10,000 g/m2/day).
3) SO2 flux in the crater area: decreasing towards an average level
4) Geochemistry of fumarolic gases: There is no new data available
5) CO2 fluxes at the base of the La Fossa cone and in the Vulcano Porto area: In the Camping Sicilia and Rimessa sites, the CO2 fluxes show stable values but always above background levels; on the P4max site and Faraglione the flows fluctuate at average levels.
6) Geochemistry of the thermal aquifers: The temperature in the Camping Sicilia well is at high values, while the conductivity is stable; in the Bambara well, no significant change in the monitored parameters was observed.

7) Local seismicity: Low occurrence rate of local micro-seismicity.
8) Regional seismicity: No earthquakes with a local magnitude equal to or greater than 1.0 were recorded.
9) Deformations – GNSS: The network of permanent GNSS stations has not recorded any significant variations.
10) Deformations – Inclinometry: The inclinometric network did not record any significant variations.
11) Gravimetry: No significant change was recorded.
12) Other Comments: Mobile GNSS.
The time series acquired so far by the mobile GNSS network do not show significant variations around the Porto di Levante area.

CRATER FUMEROLES TEMPERATURE:

Along the entire summit fracture line, the emission temperature showed an hourly maximum of 385°C (T3) over the past 7 days. The hourly temperature range recorded on board is 277 to 384°C. The maximum temperature signal (T3) shows an upward trend since April 9, contrary to what was recorded in the nearby F5AT fumarole, more affected by the effects of atmospheric disturbances. It is confirmed that the thermal anomaly is still supported by a stable vapor flow at values higher than those preceding the current crisis.

Colombia , Nevado del Ruiz :

Manizales, April 13, 2023 10:05 a.m.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the NEVADO DEL RUIZ VOLCANO, the MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY through the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE (SGC) informs that:

Seismic activity associated with rock fracturing continues within the volcanic edifice.
Yesterday this type of seismicity increased compared to the day before (April 11). During the morning, this seismicity was located 3.5 km southwest of the volcano, at depths between 2 and 4 km and at a distance from the crater of 2 to 6 km. The maximum magnitude reached in this sector was 1.9 corresponding to the 8:03 a.m. earthquake, located 4 km southwest of the crater and about 4 km deep from the summit of the volcano. In the afternoon, the earthquakes were recorded mainly in the North-North-East sector of the volcano, at depths between 3 and 5 km, the maximum magnitude was M 1.8, associated with the earthquake of 3:57 p.m., located 2 km north-northeast of the crater, 4 km deep.

On the other hand, the seismicity linked to the movement of fluids inside the volcanic conduits was associated with a continuous and pulsatile emission of ash. The maximum column height
of gas and / or ash observed was 1800 m, measured from the summit of the volcano with a direction of dispersion which oscillated between the South-West and the North-West. The emission of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere maintained levels similar to those of yesterday. Localized thermal anomalies continue to be observed in the Arenas crater.

DÉCLARATION D’INFORMATION DE L’OBSERVATOIRE DES VOLCANS D’ALASKA
Enquête géologique des États-Unis
Jeudi 13 avril 2023, 11 h 01 AKDT (jeudi 13 avril 2023, 19 h 01 UTC)

Vanuatu , Ambae :

The cone in Ambae’s Lake Voui continued to produce emissions consisting of steam, volcanic gases, and ash that drifted downwind during 5-7 April, based on reports from Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD) and Wellington VAAC notices. On 5 April low-level intermittent plumes of gas and ash rose as high as 2.5 km above the crater rim and drifted W and SW. A loud explosion followed by a dark ash emission was possibly reported. Webcam images from 2100 showed incandescence above the crater and reflected in the clouds.

Intermittent emissions of gas-and-steam and gas-and-ash were visible on 7 April. Plumes rose an estimated 3 km above the crater rim and drifted E. Webcam images during 0107-0730 on 7 April showed continuing ash emissions. The Alert Level remained at 2 (on a scale of 0-5) and the public was warned to stay outside of the Danger Zone, defined as a 2-km radius around the active vents in Lake Voui, and away from drainages during heavy rains.

Kamchatka , Sheveluch :

On 28 March the Kamchatka Volcanological Station (KVS) reported that activity had increased at Sheveluch during the previous few days. Incandescence at the summit of the lava dome was constant and the focus of activity shifted from the E side to the NE side. KVERT reported that the ongoing eruption was generally characterized by explosions, hot avalanches, lava-dome extrusion, and strong fumarolic activity. A daily thermal anomaly was identified in satellite images during 30 March-6 April. Satellite images showed an ash plume drifting 250 km E and SE.

Seismic data around 00h54 local time on 11 April indicated a significant increase in activity, as reported by the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (IVS FEB RAS). According to the Tokyo VAAC the ash plume had risen to 15.8 km (52,000 ft) a.s.l. by 01h10 and was drifting NW. By 01h58 the plume extended over a 75 x 100 km area. KVS reported that significant pulses of activity occurred at around 02h00, 03h20, and then a stronger phase started around 06h00. Video of the rising plume was taken at around 06h00 from near Békés (3 km away) by Levin Dmitry, who reported that a pyroclastic flow traveled across the road behind him as he left the area. Ashfall began in Klyuchi (45 km SW) at 06h30, and the large black ash plume had blocked the daylight by 07h00. At 07h29 KVERT issued a Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA) raising the Aviation Color Code to Red (the highest level on a four-color scale). They stated that a large ash plume had risen to 10 km (32,800 ft) a.s.l. and drifted 100 km W. According to IVS FEB RAS the cloud was 200 km long and 76 km wide by 08h30, and was spreading W at altitudes of 6-12 km (19,700-39,400 ft) a.s.l.

KVS reported that at about 09h30 the plume drifted over Kozyrevsk (112 km SW) and turned the day to night. Almost constant lightning strikes in the plume were visible and sounds like thunderclaps were heard until about 10h00. The sky lightened up in Kozyrevsk at about 10h30; residents in Klyuchi reported continuing darkness and ashfall at 11h00. As the day went on the light had a reddish-brown hue due to the ash in the atmosphere. In some areas ashfall was 6 cm deep and some residents reported dirty water coming from their plumbing. At 11h50 an ash cloud 400 km long and 250 km wide was spreading W at altitudes of 5-20 km (16,400-65,600 ft) a.s.l., according to IVS FEB RAS. KVERT issued a VONA at 11h55 noting that ash had risen to 10 km and that it had extended 340 km NNW and 240 km WSW.

According to Simon Carn about 0.2 Tg of sulfur dioxide in the plume was measured in a satellite image acquired at 13h43. A satellite image at 17h48 showed ash plumes rising to 8 km (26,200 ft) a.s.l. and drifting 430 km WSW and S, based on a VONA. Residents of Klyuchi measured ashfall as thick as 8.5 cm, according to the Kamchatka Branch of Geophysical Services (KBGS; Russian Academy of Sciences). In a VONA issued at 07h48 on 12 April KVERT stated that strong explosions were continuing. Ash plumes from explosions rose to 8 km and drifted ESE. The larger ash cloud continued to drift and had extended 600 km SW and 1,050 km ESE. IVS FEB RAS scientists photographed the terminal part of a pyroclastic flow that had traveled 19 km SSE the day before, which had stopped a few hundred meters from a bridge on the road between Kliuchi and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Colombia , Nevado del Ruiz :

Servicio Geológico Colombiano’s (SGC) reported that the number of daily events detected by the seismic network at Nevado del Ruiz fluctuated during 3-8 April but declined overall. Earthquakes were generally located 2-5 km SW of Arenas Crater at depths of 3-4 km. On 9 April SGC noted that daily counts of events were no longer going to be posted in their daily reports and instead the focus will be on the location of the earthquakes. Gas emissions had also decreased in density. That same day Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres (UNGRD) reported that 2,000-2,500 families had been identified as living in high-risk areas and requested that local authorities expedite a preventive evacuation; families that had evacuated were staying with family and friends and not in evacuation shelters.

During 3-11 April the earthquakes were associated with daily emissions of gas-and-steam and gas-and-ash plumes. Ash-and-gas plumes rose as high as 1.5 km above the crater rim on 3 April and drifted NW and SW. During 6-7 April several pulsating ash emissions were observed in webcam images and by residents of La Cabaña (Murillo, Tolima). The emissions rose as high as 1.5 km and drifted SE and NE. Webcam images and La Cabaña residents again saw ash emissions on 10 April, rising as high as 1.8 km and drifting E and NE. Thermal anomalies from Arenas Crater were periodically visible through the week. The Alert Level was remained at Orange, Level II (the second highest level on a four-level scale).
