Special Report on Volcanic Activity (REAV)
Maule Region, 14 November 2017 16: 30 hours (local time).
The National Geological and Mining Service (SERNAGEOMIN) of Chile publishes the following information obtained by the monitoring teams of the National Volcanoes Surveillance Network (RNVV), processed and analyzed at the Volcanological Observatory of the Southern Andes (OVDAS):
Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 14:57 local time (16:57 GMT), the monitoring stations installed near the Planchon-Peteroa volcanic complex, recorded an episode of spasmodic seismic tremor, associated with the dynamics of fluids inside the volcano. This record had an amplitude of 12.3 pm / s, a dominant frequency of 3.2 Hz and a reduced displacement (DR) of 3.8 cm2.
Although the energy of this episode is weak, in the current state of the volcanic system of the Planchôn-Peteroa complex, it acquires a qualitative importance which suggests a greater interaction between the hydrothermal and magmatic system, or a deep intrusion of a low volume of magmatic material, which could cause instability of the system, causing ash emissions or groundwater activity of greater energy at the surface.
At the time of publication of this report, events with the above characteristics have not been re-registered. There is no information from the authorities or the community in general about perceptions in neighboring areas.
The volcanic technical alert is maintained at the yellow level. With special attention.
The SERNAGEOMIN maintains continuous monitoring and timely reporting of any changes in volcanic activity in the region.

KANLAON VOLCANO BULLETIN 15 November 2017 9:45 A.M.
This serves as a notice for the raising of the alert status of Kanlaon from Alert Level 1 (Low Level of Unrest) to Alert Level 2 (Moderate Level of Unrest). Kanlaon Volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded a total of two hundred seventy nine (279) deep volcanic earthquakes for the past 24 hours. Since 18 August 2017, the number of volcanic earthquakes detected per day has continued to increase. There has been no visible degassing or steaming from the active vent this year, although increased unrest could possibly develop into steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit. Alert Level 2 status now currently prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that the volcano is undergoing a moderate level of unrest.
There is probable intrusion of magma at depth which may or may not lead to a magmatic eruption. The local government units and the public are strictly reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions. Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejecta from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft. DOST-PHIVOLCS is closely monitoring Kanlaon Volcano’s activity and any new development will be relayed to all concerned.

In the last 24 hours, thanks to the seismic monitoring systems of the Popocatépetl volcano, 263 low intensity exhalations accompanied by water vapor and gas have been identified. Today, an explosion was recorded at 08:58. In addition, four volcano – tectonic earthquakes were recorded, the first recorded yesterday at 15:09 with a magnitude of M1.4 , the three today took place at 00:56 , 06:52 and 7:55, with magnitudes of M1,2, M1,4 and M 1,6, respectively, and 40 minutes of low amplitude harmonic tremor.
During the night, a slight incandescence was observed on the crater which increased at the time of some exhalations.
Until the moment of this report, a continuous emission of water vapor, gas , with low ash content has been observed, which is dispersed towards the South-West.
The other monitoring parameters remain unchanged.
CENAPRED asked not to approach the volcano and in particular the crater, because of the risk of falling of projectile fragments and in case of heavy rain, to remain far from the bottom of the ravines because of the danger of landslides and of mudslides.
The Popocatepetl volcanic alert signaling semaphore is located at Amarillo Phase 2.

Villarrica volcano – Oscillations at the lower level of the crater
The following graph illustrates the level oscillations of the crater floor as of March 29, 2016. For this, it was necessary to photograph chronologically the inside of the crater at the same place.
The period between August 26, 2016 and April 23, 2017 stands out, in which the column of magma inside the chimney would have oscillated more than 50 meters.
