The government of Vanuatu will begin sending the inhabitants of Ambae back to their villages, as a volcano on the island seems to have stabilized.
The island of Ambae was evacuated at the end of last month when the volcano Manaro erupted, with its 11,000 inhabitants taken to shelters on the neighboring islands.

The Minister of Geology and Mines, Ralph Regenvanu, said the government would control the repatriation process, which should only take three days.
The first repatriations will start on Saturday, he said, adding that the highly managed process will be under the command of the police.

Nevados of Chillân volcanic complex.

During this period, one thousand seventy-one (1071) seismic events, of which seventy-eight (78) were classified as volcano-tectonic (VT) events, processes related to the fracturing of a rigid material, with a local amplitude (ML) recorded at values ​​of M2.9. The most powerful earthquake was located 1.2 km south-south-east (SSE) of the active crater at a depth of 2.9 km.
Similarly, 993 earthquakes associated with fluid dynamics within the volcano, of which nine hundred and nine (909) were classified as long-term (LP) events, with recorded displaced values ​​(ROCs) of 497 cm2, considered high. Fifty-eight (58) tremor-type earthquakes were recorded, with maximum displacement values ​​of 18 cm2 (mean value). Similarly, twenty-six (26) events of the long-term type, termed Tornillo (A), were recorded in connection with the transit of magmatic and / or hydrothermal fluids in volcanic conduits with characteristics of contrast impedance high. Their reduced displacement value was less than 2.8 cm2 (low value).


Between 1 and 15 October, a total of thirty (30) explosions associated with ash emissions and / or an acoustic recording occurred in the continuation of the explosive phase that this volcano presents since the beginning of 2016. The explosion which released the largest seismic energy was recorded on 4 October at 11:48 local time and was associated with an earthquake with a reduced displacement of 497 cm2.
The images obtained by the cameras installed near the volcanic complex showed mainly fumaroles of steam emissions associated with ash from the currently active craters. The explosive events mentioned had column heights of up to 2000 m above the level of the crater.
In addition to surface activity, it is noted that there were explosions that wind factors and large amounts of ash, directed to the SW (SW) of active craters and on the Trancas area, which was corroborated by the community surrounding the volcanic complex.
According to the data provided by the GNSS stations operating on the volcanic building, no deformation can be observed due to changes in the morphology of the volcano. The data provided by the inclinometer stations show stable positions over time.

No sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions in the volcanic complex sector were reported according to data published by the Ozone Monitoring Instrument, Sulfur Dioxide Group (IMO) (http: // so2. gsfc.nasa.gov/) and the National Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) (http://satepsanoine.nesdis.noaa.gov).
No thermal alerts were reported on the volcanic complex as a result of data processed by the Middle Observation of Volcanic Activity (Mirova) (http://www.mirovaweb.it/) and thermal monitoring of global hot spots MODVOLC) (http://modis.higp.hawaii.edu/).

The continuation of the explosive process characterized by weak vulcanian explosions suggests, from the recorded elements, a process of degassing from a small volume of magma which interacts with the surface hydrothermal system, which destabilizes it and induces these explosions of pulsatile character. In this scenario, it is possible that this process continues, causing explosions of the same style to see more force than those recorded.

For all this, the level of activity is maintained at the level: AMARILLO, changes in the behavior of volcanic activity.

The explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosion up to 32 800-49 200 ft (10-15 km) could occur at any time. Ongoing activities could affect international aircraft flying at low altitudes.


The growth of the continuous lava dome (a flow of viscous lava flows out on its northern flank), strong smoldering activity, ash explosions, hot avalanches, incandescent domes and pyroclastic flows accompany this process. According to the KVERT satellite data, a thermal anomaly on the volcano was observed from 15 to 19 October. The plume of ashes resuspended by winds blowing in the vicinity of the volcanic zone drifted about 230 km east of the volcano on 13 October.

Popocatepetl , Mexico :

CENAPRED Surveillance Report on the Popocatépetl Volcano, 19 October 2017.

Over the last 24 hours, according to the Popocatepetl seismic monitoring systems, 480 low-intensity exhalations accompanied by water vapor, gas and small amounts of ash have been identified.
In addition, 2 volcano – tectonic earthquakes, the first yesterday at 16:04 h, of magnitude M2,1, and today at 02h17, of magnitude M1,8 as well as 7 minutes of harmonic tremor of low amplitude have been recorded.

From this morning until the present report, a continuous emission of water vapor and gas was observed.
CENAPRED asked not to approach the volcano and in particular the crater, and in case of rain, to stay away from the bottoms of the ravines, because of the risks of landslides and mudslides.

The Popocatépetl volcanic alert semaphore is located in Phase 2 Amarillo.
