Nevado del Ruiz , Colombia :
Subject: Activity report of the volcano Nevado del Ruiz.
The level of activity continues at the level: Activity level yellow or (III): changes in the behavior of volcanic activity.
Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the volcano Nevado del Ruiz, the COLOMBIAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICE reports that:
Over the past week, the various monitoring parameters show that the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues to exhibit unstable behavior.
The seismicity caused by the fracturing of the rocks that make up the volcano, showed a slight decrease compared to the previous week. The earthquakes were located mainly in the distal North sector, approximately 7.1 km from the Arenas crater and, to a lesser extent, in the South-East sector and near the Arenas crater. The depths of the earthquakes varied from 0.7 to 7.0 km. The maximum magnitude recorded during the week was 1.4 ML (local magnitude), corresponding to the earthquake recorded on 15 October at 20:28 (local time), located 7.5 km north of Arenas crater, at 5.7 km of depth.
The seismic activity associated with the fluid dynamics inside the volcanic structure ducts maintained the same levels as last week in terms of the number of recorded earthquakes and showed a slight increase in their energy level . This type of activity was mainly characterized by the appearance of multiple earthquakes of fluids, long periods and very long periods, as well as tremor pulses. The recording of several short episodes of continuous volcanic tremors, low levels of energy, stands out. The recording of seismic signals of this type, with a higher energy that may be associated with emissions of gases and ash, is not eliminated. The earthquakes were mainly located in the Arenas crater and in the vicinity of it.
The volcanic deformation measured from electronic inclinometers, GNSS stations and radar images showed stability behavior without recording significant deformation processes of the volcanic structure.
The volcano continues to emit water vapor and gases, including sulfur dioxide (SO2). During the last week, the SCANDOAS stations installed in the volcano zone and the satellite images showed an increase in volcano discharge rates. To monitor the information provided by NASA and Mirova FIRMES, an alert associated with a thermal anomaly was recorded on 10 October with an energy of 3 MW near the Arenas crater.
The gas and steam column reached a maximum height of 1650 m measured on the top of the volcano on 11 October. The direction of dispersion of the column was governed by the direction of the wind in the zone which, during the period, was predominant towards the Northwest of the Arenas crater.
The Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues at Yellow level.

Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE
Unrest at Cleveland volcano continues. Satellite data from October 15 show that the lava dome within the summit crater continues to slowly grow and covers an area of about 9,500 square meters (11,362 square yards) with dimensions of 125 by 100 meters (150 by 120 feet). This is about a 15 percent increase in size since October 11. The lava domes that have been erupted since 2001 have all been destroyed by explosive activity within weeks to months after lava effusion. These explosions typically produce relatively small volcanic ash clouds that dissipate within hours, however more significant ash emissions are possible. There is no way to predict how long this lava dome will grow, or when it might be destroyed by an explosion. Clouds obscured views of the volcano by satellite and web camera today. No significant activity related to lava effusion observed in seismic data and no explosive activity detected in infrasound data over the past day.

Notice Number:2017-251
Volcano Location:N 50 deg 41 min E 156 deg 0 min
Area:Northern Kuriles, Russia
Summit Elevation:3791.68 ft (1156 m)
Volcanic Activity Summary:
A moderate explosive activity of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 2.5 km a.s.l., and ash plume drift to the north-east from the volcano. Satellite data by KVERT showed the volcano was quiet.
A moderate gas-steam with some amount of ash activity of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 16,400 ft (5 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft and airport of Severo-Kurilsk.
Volcanic cloud height:
6560-8200 ft (2000-2500 m) AMSL Time and method of ash plume/cloud height determination: 20171017/2217Z – Visual data
Other volcanic cloud information:
Distance of ash plume/cloud of the volcano: 1 mi (2 km)

Tupungatito , Chile :
The Sernageomin conducted an overflight of the Tupungatito to assess the situation of the volcano.
Alvaro Amigo, head of the Sernageomin Volcanic National Surveillance Network, said that Tupungatito is the only volcanic center that has exhibited eruptive activity in the vicinity of Santiago in recent decades, making its permanent monitoring very relevant. However, geological and geophysical evidence indicates that instrumentally recorded activity is not related to eruptive dynamics.
Recorded volcano-tectonic (rock fracture) and above 3.5 (ML) earthquake are related to the system of cortical structures, that is a geological fault, located to the west of the volcano Tupungatito.
In this regard, the SERNAGEOMIN geologist, Gabriel Orozco, stressed that « during the flight, normality was observed on the Tupungatito volcano ». He added that « compared to the previous visit, the acid lake in the crater has maintained its level, and that the fumarol activity has similar intensities, » he concluded.
At present, the Tupungatito volcano has a permanent smoldering activity concentrated in one of its craters, which also houses an acid lake of small dimensions.
Historical eruptive recordings indicate about twenty events since the 17th century, including minor reactivations and increases in smoking activity. Its last major eruption took place in 1958-1961, generating a lava flow of almost 2 km, along with smaller explosions that caused ash falls in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. Its most recent activity took place in 1986, with a small dark ash column covering some of the adjacent glaciers. The geochemical analysis of fumaric fluids suggests a magmatic source contaminated by sedimentation.

Shinmoedake , Japan :
Warning widens for further eruptions of Kyushu volcano .
17 OCTOBER 2017. Authorities are warning residents and hotel operators here about the possibility of larger eruptions and pyroclastic flows on Mount Shinmoedake, noting an increase in gas emitted from the volcano.
The 1,421-meter mountain in the Kirishima range straddling the border of Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures in southern Kyushu erupted for the first time in six years early on Oct. 11.
A blanket of volcanic ash has turned parts of Kirishima gray.
Employees and visitors of accommodation facilities in the expanded area requiring vigilance have left the danger zone.
The road between the Shinyu Sansaro three-road junction and Takachiho-gawara along Prefectural Route 104, the Onaminoike mountaineering trail and other routes have been closed.
Enhanced monitoring equipment for volcanic activity was being prepared near hotels on Oct. 16. The equipment is expected to start monitoring the situation on Oct. 18 at the earliest.
