A new eruptive pulse recorded on the volcano Chillán around 8:45 yesterday morning.
According to information provided by the government of Ñuble through its Twitter account, the eruptive pulse of Chillan’s Nevados volcano is in the normal for the yellow alarm issued by Onemi.
On the basis of the above, the civil protection system maintains a radius of 3 kilometers as an exclusion zone around active craters and access to the area continues to be restricted.
The National Geological and Mines Service, Sernageomin, continues the permanent monitoring of the volcanic complex, paying particular attention to its temporal evolution and the Regional Office of Onemi de Biobío will maintain coordination with the members of the Civil Protection System in response emergency situations.

The National Geological and Mining Service (SERNAGEOMIN) describes the following information obtained by the monitoring teams of the National Volcanic Monitoring Network, processed and analyzed at the South Andes Volcanological Observatory, Sernageomin Data Interpretation Center:
Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 08:43 local time (11:43 GMT) there was a series of pulsatile emissions of gases and particles associated with low-energy explosions on the volcanic Nevados complex of Chillan. These pulses, due to the current trend of the wind, have dispersed to the southwest (SW) side of the volcano.
The calculated maximal displacement values calculated for these explosions were 16 cm2, a value that represents the power of the event at its origin, considered to be moderate.
As noted by the camera installed near the volcanic complex, at the time of this report, six (6) explosions were recorded which reached a maximum height of 1 km.
After the pulses described, the seismic activity shows a tendency to decrease to the level of activity observed previously. In the current scenario, new ash emissions from a destabilization process of the shallow hydrothermal system caused by heat transfer from an underlying magmatic body may occur. The volcanic technical alert is maintained at the YELLOW level, with particular attention to its temporal evolution.
Sernageomin will continue its online monitoring and provide timely information on possible changes in volcanic activity in the region.

The number of shallow and deep volcanic earthquakes at Lewotolo recently increased, prompting PVMBG to raise the Alert Level from 1 to 2 (on a scale of 1-4) on 7 October. The report noted that the public should not enter the 2-km-radius exclusion zone around the crater. Solfatara emissions rose as high as 500 m above the crater rim on 9 October; emissions during 1 August-6 October rose 50-600 m. BNPB reported that five earthquakes recorded by Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) on 10 October ranged in magnitude between 3.9 and 4.9, and were located 10-30 km below Lewotolo. The events were felt by local populations, causing an evacuation of 723 people. Preliminary data suggested that five homes were damaged from rock avalanches, triggered by the earthquakes.
Level of activity at level II (WASPADA). G. Ili Lewotolo (1319 m altitude) often experiences seismic crises closely related to local tectonic activity in the northern part of the volcano. Visually since yesterday until this morning, the volcano appears clear until the appearance of the mist. There was observed a thin white smoke, low pressure at 20-50 m altitude, inclined towards the east and west. The seismographic records of 10 October 2017 recorded:

118 events of Hybrid / Phase type.
16 events of shallow volcanic type.
76 events of deep volcanic type.
161 events of the local Tectonic type (26 felt).
Recommendations: The communities around G. Ili Lewotolo and the visitors / travelers must avoid the activities, climb and approach within a radius of 2 km around the crater.
VONA: The latest YELLOW color code recorded, was released on 09 October 2017 at 09:26, the crater emitted a white smoke that reached a height of 1923 m above sea level or 500 m above the peak. The wind was blowing towards the west.
For the volcano Normal state: For communities / tourists / climbers do not spend the night and camp in the crater to avoid potential threats of toxic gases.

Heavy rains in the area of the Santa María complex, Santiaguito, are currently generating the descent of lahars moderated by the Cabello de Angel and Nimá I rivers, tributaries of the Samala River, a width of 12 meters and a height of 1.5 meters, carrying branches and blocks 1 meter in diameter. Due to the rains, it is likely that lahars will also be produced in the San Isidro and Tambor rivers in the next few minutes. This will affect the flow of the Samala River, which will increase. Events similar to or greater than these will continue to be generated in the ravines of the Nima I, Tambor and Nimá II tributaries of the Samala River.

Popocatepetl , Mexico:

Over the last 24 hours, the seismic monitoring systems of Popocatepetl volcano have identified 50 low-intensity exhalations. Among the most important events are those occurring yesterday at 10:44, 12:19 12:39, 13:57 and 14:33, which resulted in eruptive columns less than 1 km in height with a low to moderate ash content, which were scattered to the southwest. Following this activity yesterday afternoon Amecameca Civil Protection reported ash falls in Ozumba and Edo de Mexico.
Also, during the last night, two explosions at 23:23 and 23:48 took place, but, due to weather conditions, there was no visibility on the volcano.
In addition, from 05:25 to 07:50, a train of exhalations and small explosions that generated eruptive columns with a height of less than 1 km was recorded.
Finally, during this morning, two volcano-tectonic events were recorded, the first occurring at 05:25 and the second at 07:50, their respective magnitudes being M1,2 and M2,4.
At the time of this report, there is no visibility on the volcano, however, seismic monitoring is carried out continuously over 24 hours. Any changes to the activity will be reported in due course.
CENAPRED asked not to approach the volcano and in particular the crater because of the risk of projectiles falling and in case of heavy rainfall to stay away from the bottoms of the ravines due to the danger of landslides and flows mud.
The Popocatepetl volcanic alert semaphore is located in Amarillo Phase 2.
