The Kagoshima Local Weather Observatory indicates that the Showa crater of the Sakurajima erupted on the morning of May 2 at 3 hours and 20 minutes. As regards the monitoring of the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the Colombian Geological Survey reports that:

Over the past week, the various monitoring parameters show that the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continues to show unstable behavior.

The seismicity caused by fracturing the rock under the volcano, showed an increase in the number of earthquakes and seismic energy released compared to the previous week. An increase in activity on April 27, from 18:56 to 13:20 on April 28 (local time) stands out. This seismicity was located in the northern zone, at depths between 4 and 6.5 km, the maximum amplitude of increase and week was 2.2 ML (local magnitude), recorded on April 28 At 10:44 am (local time) at a depth of 4.4 km. The seismicity of the week was mainly in the northern zone and to a lesser extent in the South-West, South-East, Northeast and Arenas craters. The depths of the earthquakes ranged from 0.4 to 7.1 km.


As regards the seismic activity associated with the dynamics of the fluids in the volcanic structure, this one maintained energy levels similar to those of the previous week. This type of activity is mainly characterized by the presence of several fluid earthquakes, long-term and very long-period events and tremor pulses with varying energy levels and durations. Some of these seismic signals have been associated with emissions of gases and ash into the atmosphere, as confirmed by the images captured by the cameras installed in the volcano area and by reports from Los Nevados National Park officials and Of the Colombian Geological Survey who were working on the ground. The recording of seismic signals of this type, with higher energy levels that may be associated with emissions of gas and ash is not ruled out. It is important to remember that the ash emission processes can occur for several days and sometimes several times during the day, without involving an individual report for each episode.

Volcanic activity in the last 24 hours of the Poas volcano.
During the last 24 hours, we observed a number of small earthquakes of discrete VTS type on seismograms and tremors of very low amplitude.


During the day, the plume was scattered mainly west and southwest. But there were no reported ash falls or sulfur odors.

In the current Poas volcano eruptions, more short – term eruptions are to be expected. The OVSICORI-A remains vigilant on volcanic activity and will publish periodic reports on the evolution of its behavior and each important changes.
