Increased volcanic activity on Iya volcano, Ende, East Nusa Tenggara, 29 September 2016, 19.00
The Iya volcano saw his activity level move from level I (Normal) to Level II (Waspada) from this Thursday, September 29th, 2016 at 19:00 pm. This is based on observations made continuously by the Geological Agency of PVMBG, at the observation post of Iya volcano, located in Tanjung, Kab. Ende, East Nusa Tenggara. The PVMBG has detected an increase in seismic and volcanic activity of G. Iya since September 29, 2016 at 15:30. In the space of 18 hours (00: 00-18: 12 hours) it was registered 8 earthquakes related to local tectonic and 17 volcanics earthquake . This increased seismicity indicates an increase in the pressure of magma beneath the surface resulting from a supply of volcanic rocks beneath the volcano.
The Iya volcano is administratively located in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara province and at an altitude of 637 m above the level of the sea. In the history of its activities, the volcano erupted eight times with a volcanic explosivity index (VEI) around 2-3 (on a scale of up to 8). The biggest and the last eruption took place on January 27, 1969 with a VEI 3. It was reported at 16:00, a sudden eruption of hot clouds and continuous roar. In general, the type of eruption of G. Iya is freato–magmatic. This type of eruption can occur with an interaction between magma and water under the surface.
In the context of the increased volcanic activities of the Iya volcano the Geological Agency recommends that communities, fishermen and visitors / tourists are not allowed to approach the crater and not making activity throughout the area (land and sea) in a 2 km radius around the volcano’s crater.
Gunung Iya is the southernmost of a group of three volcanoes comprising a small peninsula south of the city of Ende on central Flores Island. The cones to the north, Rooja and Pui, appear to be slightly older than Iya and have not shown historical activity, although Pui has a youthful profile (a reported 1671 eruption of Pui was considered to have originated from Iya volcano). Iya, whose truncated southern side drops steeply to the sea, has had numerous moderate explosive eruptions during historical time.

From The 27th of September there have been various seismic events near the momotombo volcano, that day, there were 7 Events of importance between 14:00 and 16:00 HL, also the 28th of September is generated at least 8 earthquakes important between 4:00 and 6:00 HL. Telluric movements of those two days are kind of volcano-tectonic to depths of 1 to 10 kilometres, associated to the breaking of the rock by the passage of magma into the surface. In the network of seismic amplitude in real time does not exceed 1000 units on average
Several hours after the swarm of 28 September was given a strong earthquake of 5.4 on the richter scale to 2,9 km deep caused by local fallamiento located near the massif. This event has been followed by numerous replicas with earthquakes that hover between 4,6 to 1,5 degrees on the richter scale.
It should be noted that they still manages to observe in the filament active crater generated by the lava dome; so it is possible that there will be explosions esperádicas at any time.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the Colombian Geological Service reports that:
During the past week, various monitoring parameters, show that the Nevado del Ruiz volcano remains unstable.
Seismic activity related to rock fracturing under the volcanic edifice showed an increased number of earthquakes and a slight decrease in the seismic energy released, compared to the previous week. This seismicity was located mainly in the Southwest seismogenic source and to a lesser extent in the Northeast , southeastern areas of the crater Arenas . The depths of the earthquake was between 0.98 and 6.45 km. The emergence of a growing number of earthquakes between September 21 and 22, located in the southwest area of the crater Arenas at depths ranging between 2.0 and 3.83 kilometers is noted. The maximum magnitude recorded during the week was 2.1 ML (local magnitude), which corresponds to the earthquake registered on September 23 at 15:15 (local time) to 2.6 km deep and located in the Southwest area of the crater Arenas.
Seismic activity related to fluid dynamics in the volcanic conduits was characterized by the appearance of long period earthquakes (LP) and very long period (VLP), pulses of tremors and multiple earthquakes of fluid with different energy levels. As for the location of this seismicity, it was mainly located in the Arenas crater and next to this area. The registration of new seismic signals of this type with higher energy levels, some of these seismic signals being associated with gases and ash emission in the atmosphere, whose dispersion depends on wind conditions that prevailed in the region, mainly to the west and northwest, is not excluded as confirmed by the images of the cameras installed in the volcano area and by the reports of officials from Natural National park of Los Nevados (NNNP ) and from the Colombian Geological Service (QMS).
The volcanic deformation measured from electronic inclinometers, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and satellite images to track changes in the tilt, the position and shape of the volcano, respectively, continued to record changes.
The volcano continues to emit into the atmosphere large amounts of steam and water gas, including sulfur dioxide (SO2), which is distinguished as it was estimated by the permanent stations SCANDOAS installed in the region volcano and satellite imagery. On monitoring satellite images provided by the site Mirova, no thermal anomaly was recorded.
The column of gas, steam and ash time to time reached a maximum height of 700 m above the top of the volcano, on September 21. The direction of the dispersion of the column was in compliance with the prevailing wind in the area, which, during the week showed the predominant direction towards the northwest of the volcano, promoting the dispersion of the ashes to the populations in these directions with respect to the volcanic structure.

Based on webcam and satellite images, and information from the Mexico City MWO, the Washington VAAC reported that on 25 September an ash emission from Colima rose to an altitude of 5.2 km (17,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted NNE.
