Current Vanuatu Volcano Alert Level: Level 2
The Alert Level for Ambae volcano is increasing to Level 2. This means that the volcanic activity is in the major unrest stage. At this alert level, the volcanic activity is likelihood to decrease or increase at any time within the next days. The area of risk is around every Manaro lakes.

Thus approaching the volcano is not safe; it would be safer to view the volcano far away from these lakes to avoid volcanic gases, ashes and any other volcano activity impacts. Therefore, all communities, villages, visitors and travel agencies have to seriously consider this information.
The Department of Meteorology and Geohazards will continue to closely monitor this volcano activity. More information will be provided when necessary.

Aoba, also known as Ambae, is a massive 2500 cu km basaltic shield volcano that is the most voluminous volcano of the New Hebrides archipelago. A pronounced NE-SW-trending rift zone dotted with scoria cones gives the 16 x 38 km island an elongated form. A broad pyroclastic cone containing three crater lakes is located at the summit of the Hawaiian-style shield volcano within the youngest of at least two nested calderas, the largest of which is 6 km in diameter. Post-caldera explosive eruptions formed the summit craters of Lake Voui (also spelled Vui) and Lake Manaro Ngoru about 360 years ago. A tuff cone was constructed within Lake Voui about 60 years later. The latest known flank eruption, about 300 years ago, destroyed the population of the Nduindui area near the western coast.

The crisis is continuing on the Sinabung and even seems to grow.

Recommendation: The community and visitors / tourists should not carry out any activities in a radius of 3 km around the summit, and the public within 7 km from the South-South- East sector , about 6 km in the East-South-East sector , and 4 km in the North-East sector of G. Sinabung must evacuate to a safe place. And people who live near rivers that discharge from Mount Sinabung must stay alert to the threat of lahars.

Poas Volcano could have an increase in activity.
23 AUGUST 2016. The Poas Volcano registered a phreatic eruption last week. This activity reveals changes recorded in the giant crater.
Fumarole temperature used to reached 700 degrees Celsius, but at present is around 200. The opposite happens in the crater lake, and its temperature rose to 30 degrees on average, to above fifty now.
Poas had phreatic eruptions recorded. A phreatic eruption is that which occurs when the magma of a volcano with its high temperature is contacted with the base or a surface containing water which evaporates quickly causing an explosion of steam, water, ash, mud and stones.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the Colombian Geological Service reports that:
During the last week, the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continued to record seismic activity associated with the fracturing of the rock inside the volcano and fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits.
Earthquakes associated with the fracturing of the rock inside the volcano, were mainly in the seismogenic sources of the Northwest, South, Northeast, and to a lesser extent in North Distal sectors and near the Arenas crater at depths ranging from 1.0 to 7.3 km. The appearance of a slight increase between 21 and 22 August, located in the northwest of Arenas crater at depths between 4.1 and 6.3 km is highlighted. The strongest earthquake was presented on August 22 at 5:09 (local time), associated with the increase, with a maximum magnitude of 2.1 ML (local magnitude), 4.9 km deep, located in Northwest sector of Arenas crater.
Seismic activity related to fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits, was characterized by the appearance of long-period earthquakes (LP) and very long period earthquakes (VLP), pulses of tremor, short episodes of continuous tremor and several fluid earthquakes, with variable energy levels. Some of the seismic signals were associated with gas and ash emissions into the atmosphere. The registration of new seismic signals of this type with higher energy levels that can be associated with gas and ash emissions in the atmosphere, which can be dispersed depending on wind conditions in the region is not excluded.
The volcanic deformation measured from electronic inclinometers, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and satellite images to track changes in the tilt, the position and shape of the volcano, respectively, continued to record changes.
The volcano continues to emit into the atmosphere large amounts of water vapor and gas, including sulfur dioxide (SO2), as it was felt by the permanent stations SCANDOAS installed in the volcano area and satellite imagery. In the monitoring of the satellite images provided by the site Mirova, two thermal anomalies of low energy level, on 20 August, were identified.
The column of gas, steam and ash reached a maximum height of 700 m above the top of the volcano, on August 21 The direction of the dispersion of the column was in line with the prevailing wind in the area, which during the week showed a predominant direction towards the west and the northwest of the volcano, which promotes dispersion of ashes to the populations in these directions from the volcanic structure.
