Volcanic and seismic monitoring:
During this period, earthquakes related to fracturing of rocks (VT) near the volcano Ticsani (less than 6 km from the crater) decreased at an average rate of 15 VT / day (Report No. 09-2016 indicated 31 VT / day).
The occurrence of volcano-tectonic earthquakes Distals (EDV) declined. On this occasion, an average of 10 EDV / day, lower than the previous period in which 28 VT / day were observed, was recorded.
On the other hand, tremor type of events during this period, were observed short (less than 2 minutes) and sporadically, and has accumulated over the past two weeks with a total of 7 minutes .
The hybrid-type events associated with the passage of magmatic fluids, occurred a few times.
They recorded a peak of activity on August 15 It is important to note that these events had low energy levels (less than 1 MJ).
Location of event:
During this period, were recorded a total of 151 earthquakes related to the breaking of rocks, with magnitudes between M1,8 and M3,1. The epicentral distribution of these events was near the volcano Ticsani (proximal VT), with depths of up to 8 km beneath the crater. In addition, scattered earthquakes (VT), distals distributed in the southeast of this massif are observed. In this period, two earthquakes of magnitude M3,1, located 4 km and 8 km to the east and southeast of the volcano Ticsani respectively were recorded.
The satellite system « EOS Aura » GSDM–NASA (http://so2.gsfc.nasa.gov/) recorded low density values of SO2 gas during this period.
The Mirova system (www.mirovaweb.it) did not detect thermal anomaly on the volcano Ticsani (VPR = 0 Mega Watts)

New phreatic eruption recorded this afternoon on the Poas volcano.
August 16, 2016. The event took place at 2:09 the afternoon of August 16. The eruption was captured by the cameras of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica, OVSICORI.
According to the experts’ reports, the eruption column had a height of 100 meters above the crater. The activity of the Poas Volcano lasted two minutes, so it was not necessary to evacuate the tourists.
Poas, August 16, 2016 at 14:09 local time, an eruption of Poas volcano, with a column that rises to the height of 100 meters above the crater and up to 2808 m.s.n.m. (Altitude Meters) (9210.24 feet) was recorded.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the Colombian Geological Service reports that:
During the last week, the Nevado del Ruiz recorded , compared to the previous week , a slight decrease in terms of seismic activity associated with the fracturing of the rock inside the volcano as well as the seismic activity related to fluid dynamics inside the volcanic conduits.
Earthquakes associated with rock fracturing inside the volcano, were mainly in the seismogenic sources of the Northwest, South-West, Southeast, Northeast, and to a lesser extent in the sectors North proximal, North Distal, and near the Arenas crater at depths between 0.8 and 8.7 km. The earthquake of greatest energy was presented on August 12 at 4:29 p.m. (local time) with a maximum magnitude of 1.7 ML (local magnitude) at a depth of 7.7 km, located in the North West of the Arénas crater. The emergence of a slight increase on 12 August, located in the northwest of Arenas crater at depths between 6.6 and 8.5 km is raised.
Seismic activity related to fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits, was characterized by the appearance of long-period earthquakes (LP) and very long period (VLP), pulses of tremor, short episodes of continuous tremor and several fluid earthquakes, with variable energy levels. Some of the seismic signals were associated with gas and ash emissions into the atmosphere. The decrease in the registration of seismic signals related to fluid dynamics in volcanic pipes is noted. The registration of new seismic signals of this type with higher energy levels that can be associated with gas and ash emissions in the atmosphere, which can be dispersed depending on wind conditions in the region is not excluded.
The volcanic deformation measured from electronic inclinometers, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and satellite images to track changes in the tilt, the position and the shape of the volcano, respectively, continued to record changes.
The volcano continues to emit into the atmosphere large amounts of water vapor and gases, including sulfur dioxide (SO2), as it was felt by the permanent stations SCANDOAS installed in the Volcano area and by satellite imagery. On monitoring the satellite images provided by the site Mirova, no thermal anomaly has been identified.
The column of gas, steam and ash time to time reached a maximum height of 450 m above the top of the volcano, on August 9 .The direction of the dispersion of the column was in compliance with the prevailing wind in the area, which during the week showed a predominant direction towards the northwest of the volcano, promoting the dispersion of the ash on people who are in these directions.

In recent days there has been increased activity with loud explosions, so it can be the start of a similar eruptive cycle of the past few months, with probability of loud explosions , Vulcanian type, so it is recommended to not approach the dome complex.
Due to the increase of the rainy season in the area of Santiaguito, there is likely to have moderate, hot lahars , mainly in the afternoon and at night.
