Gamalama , Indonésia :

After seven months of hibernation, Indonesia’s Mount Gamalama erupted on Wednesday, spewing ash 600 metres into the atmosphere. Authorities closed the Babullah Airport on Ternate Island due to the volcanic ash.
A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency, Sutopo Nugroho, says Sultan Babullah Airport would remain close until 10 am on Thursday, reports AAP. The eruption followed an undersea earthquake which measured 4.6 on the Richter scale.

Mount Gamalama’s last eruption was in December 2015 when it disrupted economic activities in Ternate and closed the airport for two weeks. Before that, the volcano erupted on July 16, 2015 at 9:58 am. The volcanic ash it spewed then was higher at 1,500 metres into the sky, reports The Jakarta Post.

PPGA Gamalama: alert level : Waspada.
Chronology of the volcanic eruption of Gamalama
1. At 6:14 (local ) was recorded a tectonic earthquake (info of BMKG, 86 km south west of the island of Halmahera, at a depth of 18 km, magnitude M4.6), followed by constant tremors with a maximum amplitude of 1.5 mm.
2. At 6:28 comes a gray to gray-white smoke emission with a height of about 500-600 meters dispersing to the Southeast.
3. It was recorded three rumblings. At 7:09, 7:12 and 7:13 pm.
4. The emission of ash began to decline at 6:55.

Brava Island, Green Cape :

Cape Verde evacuates 300 for fears of volcanic eruption .

2 AUGUST 2016. Cape Verde has evacuated 300 people from Brava in the south of the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean for fear of a volcanic eruption after an earth tremor on Tuesday.
There were low intensity tremors on Tuesday morning on the coastal parts of Brava, which is the smallest island of the country, causing no injuries or damage, according to the weather service.
It was felt at Cova Joana where, as a precaution, authorities began the evacuation operation targeting some 300 people, the Interior Minister, Paulo Rocha announced at a press conference in Praia.

“Data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics demonstrate the intensifying seismic activity on the island of Brava. If this activity continues, we can possibly have a volcanic eruption in the coming hours,” Rocha said.
Brava is one of the nine inhabited islands of Cape Verde. It is the least populated with 7,000 inhabitants, according to official figures.
The island is close to Fogo where the Pico do Fogo volcano that erupted in November 2014 after 19 years of calm.

Santa Maria – August 2 – Brava island came into seismic activity from the 00 hours of Tuesday. The activities were recorded with more intensity in the town of Cova Da Joana.

The Civil Protection has called for the immediate evacuation of 300 people from the town of Cova Da Joana, located in the Freguesia de Nossa Senhora do Monte, according to Cape Verde Radio information (RCV).
The authorities have already turned to that location to see the emergency and the National Police is already preparing the evacuation of these people.

Brava Island, 20 km west of Fogo, is the westernmost of the southern Cape Verde islands. The 10-km-wide island contains 15 morphologically youthful craters located along two or three lineaments intersecting along the crest of the island. The youthfulness of the craters and numerous minor earthquakes in recent years indicate that a significant volcanic hazard still exists (Wolff and Turbeville, 1985). Most of the younger eruptions originated from the interaction of phonolitic magmas with a large groundwater reservoir contained within an older volcanic series characterized by thick welded ignimbrites and block-and-ash flow deposits. Carbonatitic lavas are also found on Brava.

Fuego De Colima , Mexico :

Colima Volcano records exhalation with low ash content .

2 AUGUST 2016. On Tuesday, the Colima Volcano of Fire recorded an exhalation of water vapor and gases with low ash at 09:11 hours. The emanation of steam thousand reached a height of 500 meters from the crater.
Ashfall in populations of Colima and Jalisco near the volcano, is not ruled out. During the last 72 hours, the average eruptive events in the volcano of Colima ranges from 15 to 25 a day.

For safety, the authorities maintain a range of exclusion of 5 kilometers around the crater and 12 kilometers in Barranca Montegrande. The volcano continues in Yellow Alert indicating in preventive phase.

The Colima volcanic complex is the most prominent volcanic center of the western Mexican Volcanic Belt. It consists of two southward-younging volcanoes, Nevado de Colima (the 4320 m high point of the complex) on the north and the 3850-m-high historically active Volcán de Colima at the south. A group of cinder cones of late-Pleistocene age is located on the floor of the Colima graben west and east of the Colima complex. Volcán de Colima (also known as Volcán Fuego) is a youthful stratovolcano constructed within a 5-km-wide caldera, breached to the south, that has been the source of large debris avalanches. Major slope failures have occurred repeatedly from both the Nevado and Colima cones, and have produced a thick apron of debris-avalanche deposits on three sides of the complex. Frequent historical eruptions date back to the 16th century. Occasional major explosive eruptions (most recently in 1913) have destroyed the summit and left a deep, steep-sided crater that was slowly refilled and then overtopped by lava dome growth.

Popocatepetl , Mexico :

Continuation of the series:

August 1°, 11:30 h (August 1°, 16:30 GMT)

Yesterday since 18:50 h until 05:17 h today, a Strombolian-type eruption was registered. This activity was acompanied with an ash and volcanic gases emission with 2.5 km height above the crater. Also incandescent lava fragments were observed at 0.5 to 1.2 km from the crater, mainly on the northeastern flank . Ash fall was reported in Milpa Alta, Xochimilco, Tlalpan, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Álvaro Obregón, Tláhuac and Iztapalapa (Mexico city), and Ozumba, Atlautla, Tlalmanalco, Ecatzingo, Tepetlixpa y Amecameca (State of Mexico).

Additionally 35 LP earthquakes with a emission of steam, volcanic gases and ash , 121 minutes of harmonic tremor, one explosion at 07:34 h today and two volcanotectonic earthquakes (Mc=1.5) were registered.

August 2, 11:00 h (August 2, 16:00 GMT)

In the last 24 hours the seismic monitoring system of Popocatepetl volcano registered 45 low-intensity exhalations and three explosions registered at 23:56 and 23:58 h yesterday and at 03:22 h today . Additionally three volcanotectonic earthquakes with magnitude of M2.2, M2.1 and M1.7 were registered.

At night incandescence was observed over the crater.

At the time of this report we can see the volcano with continuous emission of steam and gas in a westherly direction .

CENAPRED emphasizes that people SHOULD NOT go near the volcano, especially near the crater, due to the hazard caused by ballistic fragments .

This type of activity is included within the scenarios Volcanic Traffic Light Yellow Phase 2.
