Popocatepetl, Mexique :

In the last 24 hours, the volcano Popocatepetl surveillance system recorded an ongoing activity that continued until two hours after its debut at 10:03 yesterday, and restarted at 8:44 today .She is always present at the time of issue of this report. This activity is related to the cycle of creation / destruction of the dome. She is covered by the definition of the level of alert yellow Phase 2    .

Nocturnal incandescent increased when some episodes was observed.
At the time of this report, the volcano is observed with a continuous emission of steam and gas with a South East direction.
It is recommended not to approach the volcano, in the respect of the security zone defined for this alert phase, and take precautions against ash falls, which are summarized at the end of this report.

The CENAPRED urged not to approach the volcano and above the crater.

 


If ash falls occur, the following recommendations are made:

Cover your nose and mouth with a damp cloth or a face mask.
Clean the eyes and throat with pure water.
Use glasses and avoid contact lenses to reduce irritation of the eye.
Close windows or cover them as much as possible and stay inside.

Today from 8:44 until time of this report, the volcano has had a constant activity, similar to that of yesterday, which was observed through constant exhalation vapor water with low ash content . This activity is envisaged in the definition of  yellow alert phase 2, so it is not changed. This activity is most likely linked to cycles of creation / destruction of the dome. It is recommended not to approach the volcano, in the respect of the security zone defined for this alert phase.

The activity started at 8:44 this morning declined from 6h46 p.m.. During the night it will appear higher because the cameras capture the incandescent fragments ejected during exhalations, not seen during the day. The alert level remains at yellow stage 2. It is recommended not to approach the volcano, in the respect of the security zone defined for this alert phase.

PVMBG reported that during 4-14 January inclement weather sometimes prevented visual observations of Sinabung and the growing lava dome in the summit crater. As many as 192 hot avalanches and 12 pyroclastic flows traveled 0.5-3 km ESE. Ash plumes from a total of 40 events rose as high as 3 km. Seismicity consisted of avalanche and pyroclastic-flow signals, low-frequency and hybrid events, tremor, tectonic events, and volcanic earthquakes. Seismicity fluctuated at high levels, although it had declined compared to the previous week, and indicated lava-dome growth. The Alert Level remained at 4 (on a scale of 1-4), indicating that people within 7 km of the volcano in the SSE sector, and within 6 km in the ESE sector, should evacuate.

Based on information from PVMBG and satellite images, the Darwin VAAC reported that during 13-15 and 17-19 January ash plumes from Sinabung rose to altitudes of 3-4.3 km (10,000-14,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted NW, W, and SW.

Gunung Sinabung is a Pleistocene-to-Holocene stratovolcano with many lava flows on its flanks. The migration of summit vents along a N-S line gives the summit crater complex an elongated form. The youngest crater of this conical, 2460-m-high andesitic-to-dacitic volcano is at the southern end of the four overlapping summit craters. An unconfirmed eruption was noted in 1881, and solfataric activity was seen at the summit and upper flanks in 1912. No confirmed historical eruptions were recorded prior to explosive eruptions during August-September 2010 that produced ash plumes to 5 km above the summit.

Surveillance in the surrounding communities of Volcan de Fuego.

The phase of eruption of Fuego volcano recorded these days has decreased in intensity. During the day, weak explosions were observed, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology -INSIVUMEH-. The Executive Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction-SE-CONRED-, visited the communities surrounding the volcano to see the damage after the fall of fine ash.
After sending ash plumes that rose to 6500 meters, the Fuego volcano no longer records a few explosions and emissions of gray ash bursts in the atmosphere and lava flows to the South are decrease, said the scientific agency of system CONRED  in the BEVFO bulletin # 18-2016 issued this morning.

In plantations, we observe on the leaves deposits of fine ash produced by the eruption of Fuego.

The unit of SE-CONRED prevention Volcanoes, held this morning a visit to Ceylon and La Rochela, neighboring communities of Fuego volcano to verify the damage in some homes or crops in the region. Residents indicate that in the course of the night and early morning light ash fall was recorded, taking into account the wind direction.
