Sheveluch, Kamchatka :

The Sheveluch volcano in Russia’s Kamchatka erupted once again on Sunday, as the volcano’s activity continues to grow, potentially leading to a major eruption.
The Shiveluch volcano in Russia’s Kamchatka territory woke up on Sunday morning local time, releasing a plume seven kilometers up in the atmosphere, the Kamchatka Branch of the Russian Academy of Science’s Geophysical Service said.

The Sheveluch volcano released ash plumes throughout 2015, at times releasing enough ash to carpet nearby towns. The new eruption led the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) to issue an orange warning, meaning that while a major eruption is not imminent, it is nevertheless a danger to aircraft.

« According to video data, explosions sent ash up to 7 km [above sea level] on 2153 UTC on January 09. The ash plume extended to the west-northwest of the volcano, » the warning issued by KVERT said.

The volcano continues to erupt, according to the response team. Seismologists have previously predicted that the volcano’s activity would continue to rise over time.
« Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 32,800 ft (10 km) [above sea level] could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft, » the KVERT warning also said.

Cotopaxi, Ecuador :

During the month of December 2015, it was recorded a low surface activity level on the Cotopaxi volcano, which is characterized by pulsating gas emissions, white, from the crater, rising at exceptionally one kilometer hight. The presence of ash has been negligible, as we have noted in the past two field visits conducted around the volcano.

However, the internal activity remains at levels considered as moderate. Seismic activity remains similar to the levels recorded last month, with some type of LP earthquakes, small explosions and emission tremors. It should be stressed in particular the type of VT earthquakes, because their number is maintained between 30 and 100 earthquakes per day, similar to what was recorded during the previous period. Most of these VT type of events are of low amplitude.

Gas SO2 levels remained below 1000 tons / day, which is a considerable reduction from the 3,000 tons / day / recorded the month before.
Currently the volcano’s activity is limited to the scenario « 1 » described in the previous update. This scenario assumes that the volcano will continue to produce sweet emissions, possibly occasional explosions of small sizes, moderate and minor lahars that will stay in the national park area of Cotopaxi volcano.

Salinelles of Paterno, Sicily :

I reproduced here « in extenso » the excellent article by Bernard Duick ( http://www.earth-of-fire.com/2016/01/la-salinelle-de-paterno-en-eruption.html )

Four new small mud volcanoes were opened Thursday, January 7 at 19:30 to Paterno, Via Salé, in the yard of a private home.A noise like boiling attracted the attention of residents just a few steps of Capucin salinelle … and they found themselves facing a mudslide that in two hours, spread over 200 meters in the street slope. Firefighters and communal services intervened to allow access to housing, and build a pipeline to drain any new mudslides. The flows have stopped in the day Saturday, January 9.

In the past, the Salinelle activity has already produced outside the known sites, salinelle dei Cappuccini and salinelle del Fiume. Last August, three mouths were opened in the same area.
This secondary volcanism event called salinelle, is characterized by mud craters, and carbon dioxide, methane and other gases linked to volcanic events … / … The Salinelles were added in December in the catalog of Sicilian geosites.
