small updates these days … The time is taken by the family.

Kilauea, Hawai :

19°25’16 » N 155°17’13 » W,
Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Activity Summary:
Eruptive activity continues at Kilauea Volcano’s summit and East Rift Zone. Seismic activity and deformation rates throughout the volcano are largely at background. HVO seismometers have recorded slightly elevated seismicity along the upper East Rift Zone beginning late last night. Scattered lava flow activity continues on the June 27th lava flow field within about 6 km (4 mi) northeast of Pu’u ‘O’o. These flows currently pose no threat to nearby communities.

Summit Observations:
The lava lake remains active within Halema’uma’u Overlook crater. Over the past few days, the level of the lake has been rising. This morning, the surface of the lake was 36.5 m (120 feet) below the Halema’uma’u Crater floor. Seismic tremor has been relatively steady over the past 24 hours. In concert with lake level rise, summit tiltmeters continued to record an inflationary signal. From December 2 – 21, the summit sulfur dioxide 24-hr average emission rate averaged 2300 metric tons/day.

Pu’u ‘O’o Observations:
When not obscured by weather clouds and rain, webcam images over the past 24 hours continue to show persistent glow at longterm sources within the crater and high on the northeast rim. Seismic activity remains low at Pu’u ‘O’o while tiltmeters recorded inflationary tilt from about noon on December 27 through early this morning. The sulfur dioxide emission rate from all East Rift Zone vents was about 260 metric tons/day when it was last measured on December 18.

June 27th Lava Flow Observations:
Webcams show continued lava flow activity within the upper June 27th flow field within about 6 km (4 mi) of Pu’u ‘O’o. These flows are not currently threatening any nearby communities.
