Piton de la Fournaise, La Réunion :
AND FOUR !!
After the increase in seismic activity recorded to day , the Piton de la Fournaise erupted this Monday, August 24 at 18:50 for the fourth consecutive time this year!
According to information provided by the Observatory of the Plain of Cafres , the eruption occurs south of the Dolomieu crater, on RIVALS crater. The beginning of eruption is spectacular and seems important enough (according to Nicolas Villeneuve, Director of the Observatory of Volcanology).
This eruption is clearly visible from the Piton de Bert, like the eruption of May. So 1h30 walk from the « foc foc » parking, on a very easy trail, flat and extremely stable; But it is cold!! Do not forget your polar, gloves and a headlamp if you go at night.
Consequently, the prefect of Reunion triggered today at 19h, the alert plan « ORSEC * 2-2 ,Volcano » ongoing eruption.
Public access to the Enclos Fouqué, whether from the path of Pas de Bellecombe or from any other path as well as the helicopter landing in the volcano area remain strictly prohibited until further notice. The National Forestry Office is responsible for ensuring the implementation of these security measures on the site.
Nearly three weeks after the end of the third eruptive phase of the year 2015, the Piton de la Fournaise is once again erupted on Monday shortly before 19 hours. Two eruptive fissures were visible that night on the side of crater Rivals and below the crater Bory , opposite of the Pas de Bellecombe.
It’s early evening, at 6:50 p.m. precise, a first eruptive fissure has appeared in the south of the Enclos , at the Rivals crater, which triggered the alert 2-2 « Current Eruption « of state services. According to specialists present on the site, « the crack spitted lapilis to the crater Caubet a few hundred meters away« causing an impressive plume of smoke into the sky. Adorned with majestic red-orange dress, this column of smoke was visible from the whole of South and East coasts and a small part of the western region thus causing the arrival of tourists and night owls from all over the island.
Two cracks and « spreading of the intrusion of magma«
At the site, at over 2000 meters altitude it’s from the Piton de Bert, a one-hour walk from the car park of Foc Foc, the view was most successful last night. Shortly after 21:15, a second eruptive fissure, less powerful than the first, appeared to the three–quarter top of the slope of the summit crater, north–northwest of the Bory with two lava flows. Came from Pas de Bellecombe to enjoy a sky with fiery reflections, the curious had the chance to see this show live, by 2 ° C.
« We have currently seismic crisis data, but it is still too early to say. The stabilization of an eruption is something very fragile and, with the opening of a second eruptive fissure more than two hours after the start of this phase, we see that there is a propagation of the magma instrusion (Dyke) in the Enclos , « confided Monday at 22 hours, the director of the Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Observatory (OVPF), Nicolas Villeneuve.

Cotopaxi, Equateur :
On August 23 the volcano had a continuous emission of ash with a few breaks. This process began during the night of Saturday, August 22 at 9:41 p.m.. In Figure 1a, the seismic trace and arrow indicate the sudden onset of an earthquake that accompanied the emission.
Upper slopes of Cotopaxi covered with ashes ..
Ash falls on the night of 22 was confirmed by the guards at the entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. Yesterday the staff of the IGEPN had found that about 2 mm thick brown ash have accumulated over the past 18 hours. In Figure 1b the seismogram observed on August 24, clearly shows a gradual increase in the amplitude of the tracé, which implies higher levels of seismic energy and higher levels of internal disturbances under the volcano.
1a. August 23 seismogram recorded by the seismic station BNAS, where the signal of the strong tremor of issue continues to TL 9:41 p.m. (arrow) is observed. Previously, the volcano had introduced minor internal and external events for periods of several hours. 1b: seismogram today, August 24, until 11:17 TL.
Yesterday afternoon, ash emissions were observed with the form of tiny mushrooms rising from the crater with a moderate energy. In principle, the heights do not exceed 1 km above the crater. After each emission, the clouds have moved west through the force of winds, more than 2 km heights in some cases (Fig. 2a and b).

The emission of gas and volcanic ash, caused by seismic energy release continues (Fig. 6). Compared to previous days, the height of eruptive columns and their scope are larger, suggesting the presence of increased pressure inside the volcano. Maybe this is it related to an increase in the volume of magma

Santiaguito, Guatemala :
SPECIAL BULLETIN Guatemala August 24, 2015 10:00. (Local time)
Body type: Complex dacitic domes
Geographical location: 1 4 ° 4 4 ’ 33 ̋ Latitude N ;
9 1 ° 3 4’ 13 ̋ Longitude W
Height: 2.500 m
The activity of the Santiaguito volcano intensified last days. The OVSAN (Santiaguito Volcano Observatory) reported loud explosions, accompanied by thunder and strong shock waves, sensitive to more than 12 km.
This comes from the cone of Caliente crater the location of abundant lava pile. This stored energy generates this type of explosion, some accompanied by pyroclastic flows to the West and the east, which form gaps or channels. The columns of ash expelled reach 3,900 meters, moving toward to the east, south and southwest of the volcanic complex, which may extend to more than 15 km. Due to the described activity, the volcano is likely to continue generating explosions with strong shock waves, accompanied by pyroclastic flows, so it is necessary to take precautions and not to approach the complex dome.
The INSIVUMEH recommends:
– At the CONRED, to implement the yellow warning phase state 2 and monitor the activity.
– A Civil Aviation Authority, to take precautions with air traffic as there is a probability of bursting which can scatter the ashes higher and further than now.
