Nevado Del Ruiz, Colombie :
Level of activity : Yellow (III): changes in the behavior of volcanic activity.
Regarding the monitoring of the activity of Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the SERVICIO Geologico COLOMBIANO through the OBSERVATORIO VULCANOLÓGICO Y SISMOLÓGICO OF MANIZALES, informs that:
During the last week, different monitoring parameters, show that the volcanic system remains unstable. Seismicity was mainly associated with fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits. This activity is mainly located in the vicinity of Arenas Crater, east and southeast of it and was characterized by recording multiple episodes of volcanic tremors, which are associated with the movement of fluids, gas and ash emissions in the atmosphere.
In addition, we continued the recording of seismic activity associated with the fracturing of the rock in the volcanic structure. Earthquakes are located mainly in the northeast and southwest of the volcano, and to a lesser extent, in the crater and south of it, at depths between 2.6 and 5.0 km. The maximum magnitude recorded during the week was M 0.9 (local magnitude), corresponding to an earthquake in the north of Arenas crater, which took place on 26 June at 3:20 (local time) at a depth of 3.86 kilometers.
The volcano in the atmosphere continues to emit significant amounts of water vapor and gases, including sulfur dioxide (SO2). The gas and steam column reached a maximum height of 400 meters above the summit of the volcano, and is sometimes seen with gray tones due to the presence of volcanic ash. The direction of the dispersion of the column was in harmony with the wind regime, which remained mainly towards the northwest sector of the volcanic edifice.

Raung, Indonesie :
After a brief decline in activity, Mount Raung, located on the border between Banyuwangi, Bondowoso and Jember regencies in East Java, has again shown increased signs of activity, which could potentially upgrade the volcano’s alert status to the highest level. On Friday, Mt. Raung observation station in Songgon district, Banyuwangi, reported that the 3,332-meter-high volcano had produced intensive tremors over the past 24 hours.
“Mt. Raung has been emitting volcanic tremors for the past 24 hours at amplitudes of between 23 and 32 millimeters. However, the tremors were dominated by 26 millimeter amplitudes,” station officer Burhan Alethea said as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday. Burhan also said that fire on the peak of the volcano could be seen clearly from the station.
“This morning, grayish sulfurous gases were also seen flying to the southeast from the peak of Mt. Raung as high as between 200 and 300 meters,” he said, adding that the volcano’s rumble could be heard every 30 minutes an hour from the station. On Monday, the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) raised Mt. Raung’s alert status from Level 2 to Level 3 after it discharged molten lava and spewed volcanic ash on Sunday and Monday. Volcano alerts range from Level 1 to Level 4.
On Wednesday, seismographic data from the observation post recorded vibration widths of between 17 and 22 millimeters. Burhan said the increasing activity of the volcano could lead to an increase in the status of the volcano. “When the frequency of tremors and visual observation rise, the status will likely be increased to Level 4, but so far it remains at Level 3,” he said.
Bondowoso BPBD operational head Kukuh Triyatmoko, meanwhile, said two districts in Bondowoso lie within Mt. Raung’s potentially disaster-prone area, with 2,088 residents needing evacuation in the event of an eruption.

Bulusan, Philippines :
Devorah Fernandez, volcanologist based at the Cabid-An monitoring station in Sorsogon City, said they are conducting a 24-hour watch of the volcano.
Fernandez said they detected a volcanic earthquake over Bulusan yesterday and a magnitude-3.3 tremor some 13 kilometers south of Sorsogon.
“This mild earthquake that occurred at 9 a.m. is not expected to affect the abnormal status of Bulusan,” she said.
Raden Dimaano of the provincial disaster risk deduction and management office said they prepared food packs for distribution in Irosin, Juban and Bulusan towns, the areas most threatened by the volcano’s abnormal activity.
Dimaano said they also have enough supply of medicine to address the needs of the villagers.
Phivolcs, in a bulletin issued at 8 a.m. today, said Bulusan Volcano, at 9:46 p.m. Wednesday, generated a steam-driven explosion from a vent on its northwest upper slopes that propelled an ash plume approximately 250 meter high before it drifted west.
Based on its seismic record, the explosion lasted 3.5 minutes and traces of ash were observed in Sitio (sub village) Tulay of Barangay (village) Bagsangan and in the villages of Cogon, Monbon, and Tinampo in Irosin, Sorsogon.
