The eruption begun on July 14 at 00:50 local time continues. After a sharp drop in its intensity during the night of 17 to 18 July, the intensity of the volcanic tremor (indicator of surface eruptive intensity) is relatively constant on this day and is at an intensity equivalent to that observed on the second day of eruption (Figure 1).

This fall of the volcanic tremor is to be related to a morphological change at the level of the eruptive cone that is being formed. Compared to the observations of the previous day, a collapse of its upstream part has come to conserve the cone to the east, leaving an easier opening and flow of lava on the surface. Currently within this cone, activity focuses on 6 points (Figure 2).

– An earthquake was recorded on yesterday’s day near the Piton Crac on the eastern flank of the volcano.

– A slight deflation (deflation) is observed at the top of the terminal cone.

– Since July 16, SO2 fluxes at the level of the eruptive vent are decreasing and CO2 concentrations in the soil measured at the level of the Gite du Volcan  are at a low level.

Deflation of the summit zone as well as low CO2 concentrations in the soil mean that there is currently little or no deep feeding.

HOTVOLC (OPGC – Clermont Ferrand) and MIROVA (University of Turin) estimations carried out by satellite methods indicate flow rates between 1 and 4 m3 / s.

Ticsani , Peru :

Sismo – volcanic monitoring:

Proximals volcano-tectonic earthquakes associated with rock fracturing within 6 km of the volcano crater decreased from 53 to 36 events per day compared to the previous period. Moreover, the energy of these VT events is low.
For Volcano – Tectonic distal earthquakes (more than 6 km from the crater), they maintain a rate similar to that observed during the previous fortnight, with 12 events per day. However, on 4 and 9 July, there was an increase in Maximum Reduced Displacement values, corresponding to earthquakes located 15 km south-east of the Ticsani crater.
In the case of hybrid events, these have been observed sporadically. During this period only two events were recorded, of which the most energetic was recorded on July 14, and reached 10 cm2 of maximum reduced displacement.

 

Location of events:
The spatial distribution of LP-type earthquakes during this period shows two main points clearly corresponding to the distal seismicity (more than 6 km crater). The first point is located 10 km northwest of Ticsani, while point II is located 15 km south-east of the same volcano. The maximum recorded was of magnitude M 3,3 and corresponds to the earthquake of 4 July at 08:21 UTC.

Satellite Surveillance:
SO2 Anomalies: The GSDM-NASA (EOS Aura) satellite system (http://so2.gsfc.nasa.gov/) recorded low-density values ​​for SO2 gas during this period.
Thermal anomalies: The Mirova system (www.mirovaweb.it) has not detected thermal anomalies on the Ticsani volcano (VPR = 0 megawatts).

Conclusions:
The sismo – volcanic activity of Ticsani remains generally low levels.
The main seismic activity during this period was distal fracture type earthquakes, while proximal VT events showed a slight decrease in their value compared to the previous fortnight. These events were located in two main focus areas, one 10 km to the northwest and the other 15 km to the southeast of the crater, respectively.
Seismicity of hybrid type, continues to occur sporadically but it was observed only 2 events.
Satellite monitoring recorded low values ​​of SO2 gas density and detected no thermal anomaly near the volcano.
Any changes will be reported in a timely manner.

Ubinas , Peru :

Sismo – volcanic monitoring:
Overall, the Ubinas volcano has a low level of activity.
The dominant seismic activity in this period allowed the recording of VT type events, associated with rock fracturing. The average occurrence rate for these events was 4 earthquakes per day. Moreover, the energy generated by this seismicity remains at a low level.

Satellite Surveillance:
Thermal anomalies and SO2: The Mirova system (www.mirovaweb.it) did not detect thermal anomalies for this period. In addition, the GSDM-NASA satellite system « EOS Aura » (http://so2.gsfc.nasa.gov/) did not detect any significant anomalies of SO2.

 

Visual Surveillance:
It was observed during this period (01-15 July) the rise of small amounts of water vapor. These gases were appreciated mainly on 01 and 12 July in the morning, reaching an altitude of about 400 meters above the crater. Finally, there was no emission of ash or other solid particles.

Conclusions:
In general, the seismic – volcanic activity of Ubinas remains low. During this period, seismic records maintained an average of 4 VTs earthquakes per day, a value considered to be low.
Any changes will be reported in a timely manner.

Turrialba , Poas , Costa Rica :

Activity report of the Turrialba and Poas Volcanoes, 17 July 2017 – 11:58.

Turrialba Volcano:

The volcano continues its activity of exhalations and fumaroles, which is manifested by constant degassing in the crater. The column of gas reached up to 400 meters high and was moved by the wind towards the Southwest and the Northwest. Yesterday, an ash eruption at 12:05 am occurred with a column of pyroclasts that reached a height of 200 meters above the crater, and that the wind dissipated towards the Southwest.

No sulfur odor or ash drop reports were received. The seismic activity exhibits low-intensity tremor signals and low frequency earthquakes (Lp). Nebulosity in the crater area prevents observation.

Volcano Poás:

The volcano continues its activity of exhalations and fumaroles in the crater, producing a strong degassing. The column of gas reached heights up to 300 meters above the crater that the wind moved to the Southwest and the Northwest.
No sulfur odor reports were received.

The seismic signal has few low frequency earthquakes (Lp) and the tremor signal has a moderate amplitude.
The cloudy conditions in the area do not allow the crater to be observed constantly.
