Chronology of the phreatic eruption of the Sileri crater, Dieng Plateau, 2 July 2017

  1. Last month’s visual observations:

During the month of June 2017, the weather was sunny / overcast, rain was present 12 times with a moderate drizzle, with precipitation up to 57 mm. This month, rainfall decreased slightly compared to the previous month. The rain that fell was accompanied by strong winds. 2. Seismicity last month:
During the month of June 2017, the seismograph recorded 78 earthquakes with the following details:

– Tectonic earthquakes: 5 times in a row (not felt)

– Deep volcanic earthquakes: 4 times (VA)

On June 30, 2017, 37 local Tectonic earthquakes were recorded, with a seismic amplitude of 3 to 68 mm, the longest earthquakes: from 3.6 to 11.4 seconds.
On 1/2 July 2017 (until 11:30 am) there was no recorded earthquake.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Although the level of activity of G. Dieng remains at NORMAL, it is recommended that the following

The community should not be active around the Sileri crater, because of the danger of CO2 and H2S gas that are harmful to life.
The public should be vigilant when excavating the soil around the Sileri Crater at a depth of more than 1 meter because of the potential danger of CO2 and H2S gas.
The public must remain calm, not cause problems related to the activity of G. Dieng. The Center for Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Hazards coordinates its activities with the provincial government and the Regency of Banjarnegara, Central Java, Wonosobo and Batang on the activities of G. Dieng. People should always follow the guidelines of SATLAK PB and the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Java Central Province.
For tourists visiting the area, it is advisable not to come too close to the crater.
As part of the increase in volcanic activity in the Sileri Crater, the public and visitors should increase vigilance and not approach the Sileri Crater within 100 meters of the crater edge.

JAKARTA.  A helicopter from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) crashed while on the way to help evacuate people near a volcano that erupted Sunday near Candiroto village in Central Java province’s Temanggung district..

Villagers living around the area say at least two people were killed in the crash. The helicopter was carrying four crewmen and four rescuers.

Villagers told that they found the bodies of two people who died in the crash. The Dauphin chopper is in total destruction after hitting a cliff in Canggal Candiroto Village, Temanggung at around 04.00 p.m.

The chopper which was previously assigned to observe the traffic jam during the exodus flow of Lebaran was heading to Dieng to help evacuation efforts on the Sileri crater at the tourist resort Dieng Plateau, Kepakisan Village, Banjarnegara District.

Earlier in the day, the explosion at the crater spouted gas as high as 50 meters into the air, reaching as far as the waterboom parking lot. The explosion from a volcano in Banjarnegara district spewed cold lava, mud and ash injuring 10 people.

An eruption began at Bogoslof volcano at 20:48 UTC on July 02 (12:48 AKDT on July 2). Eruption seismicity had declined by 21:04 UTC (13:04 AKDT). No ash cloud has been detected as of yet in satellite data, but volcanic ash emissions likely occurred based on infrasound data. Winds are towards the east.
The Aviation Color Code remains at ORANGE and the Volcano Alert Level remains at WATCH at present. AVO is evaluating all data sources and will update this report as more information becomes available.

Volcanic Activity Summary:
A significant explosive eruption occurred at 20:48 UTC July 2 (12:48 AKDT July 2). AVO is raising the Aviation Color Code to RED and Alert level to WARNING for Bogoslof volcano.
Satellite data and pilot reports shows a volcanic cloud with an estimated altitude of 36,000 ft asl moving towards the east. Seismic and infrasound data suggest that the ash emissions are no longer continuing.

No further ash emissions have occurred at Bogoslof Volcano since the explosion today, July 2, at 12:48 AKDT (20:48 UTC), and seismicity remains low. The eruption lasted about 16 minutes, was detected in seismic and infrasound data, and produced a cloud up to 36,000 ft asl that was carried easterly over northern Unalaska. Observers in Dutch Harbor report no noticeable ash fall from today’s eruption. The National Weather Service issued a SIGMET that remains in effect.

Mount Dukono Erupts; Galela Airport on Alert .

2 JULY 2017. Gamarmalamo Galela airport authority in North Halmahera was ordered to be cautious on Mount Dukono increasing activity Mt Dukomo observer Sarjan Roboke said tha up to this point Mt Dukomo keeps spewing thick volcanic ashes 300 to 800 meters high. Activity:
The degassing of the crater reaches a height of about 2,600 meters and moves towards the Southwest. Due to the accumulation of ash a remobilization of the materials is observed in the crater as well as the generation of avalanches. In the early hours of the early morning, weak explosions generated white columns up to a height of 3,200 m (10,170 feet) which moved in a southwesterly direction. Small ash falls occurred on the mountainous terrain of Finca Florida and partly on Monte Claro.
