The activity level of the volcano is at the level:
YELLOW : changes in the behavior of the volcanic activity. Time for an eruption: weeks / months.

During this period, five hundred and seven (507) seismic events, of which eighty-two (82) were classified as volcano-tectonic (VT) associated with rock fracturing processes were recorded. Similarly, three hundred and sixty (360) events associated with the dynamics of fluids within the volcanic edifice, identified as long-period events (LP) and sixty-five very long-period events were recorded.



With regard to the LP type seismicity, the local magnitudes M were less than or equal to 3.1. The largest energy event (28 November) was located on the North-Northwest flank, 3 km from the El Agrio crater, with a depth of 1.4 km.

In relation to the LP events, these have exhibited a reduced displacement value (DRc) of less than 1.6 cm2, while the VLP events have exhibited a reduced displacement value (DRc) of less than 6 cm2. These events were located around the active crater.
During this period, a constant and low amplitude tremor signal, mainly associated with the gas emission, as well as sporadic particulate matter (ash) emissions from the El Agrio crater, which presented the DRc values oscillating around 1 cm2. The dominant frequencies being concentrated in a bandwidth of between 1.2 and 2.1 Hz

From the data obtained from three (3) GNSS stations, which measure the deformation of the volcano surface, it was noted that the horizontal and vertical components did not show any significant variations. The control line maintains the trend observed since August with low magnitudes, close to 0.3 cm / month.



The emission of sulfur dioxide (S02) recorded on the Copahue volcano by the DOAS (Differential Optical Spectrometry) team, Mellizas station, located 5 km east-northeast (ENE) of the active crater show a mean value of 479 ± 297 t / d and a maximum value of 969 / d recorded on 27 November. The average flow is considered moderate for this volcano.
The IP cameras installed near the volcano recorded a constant degassing of the active crater (El Agrio), characterized for the most part, with a grayish coloring, showing the presence of particulate matter. It was possible to observe a nocturnal incandescence and a strombolian activity limited to the active crater.

Videos of the active crater, shot by strangers at SERNAGEOMIN showed a weak strombolian activity projecting ballistic bombs confined in the crater.

No anomalies were reported in sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions to the atmosphere in the volcano area, based on records obtained by the Ozone Monitoring Group (IMO) (http: // so2. Gsfc.nasa .gov /) and NESDIS (

A thermal alert was recorded on the volcano during the second half of November, with a radiating power (RPV) of 19 MW, which is considered moderate, according to records published by the Middle InfraRed Observation on its website Http://



Continuous activity dominated by the appearance of a weak strombolian surface activity restricted within the El Agrío crater, linked to the slow rise of a small volume of magmatic matter in an open volcanic system, in interaction with a shallow hydrothermal system. This activity leads to certain emissions of gases and particles on the surface and a nocturnal incandescence. It is emphasized that this type of activity can continue for a long time, without excluding specific increases related to small phreatic explosions and / or weak strombolian activity in the areas surrounding the active crater. Therefore, the high risk zone is proximal to that within a radius of 1.5 km around the El Agrio crater and therefore it is recommended to restrict access to this area. The technical alert level remains at YELLOW level.

Activity report of the Turrialba volcano:

After five days of no eruptive activity, the Turrialba volcano enters a passive phase of eruption of ash, gases and aerosols. The eruptive activity began at 7 o’clock, accompanied by a weak tremor, almost impossible to distinguish from the background noise to increase towards 11:30. From that moment, the tremor became variable and managed to reach a great amplitude. Although the ash emissions are low, the tremor continues, so falls of ash are expected overnight.



The column of gas and ash does not exceed 500 meters above the top of the volcano. The winds blowed west-southwest in the morning, noon to the west and northwest in the afternoon, which could affect the populations of the central valley and the national park Braulio Carrillo.

Maintains a white and blue degassing fumarole activity at a moderate height of about 3,300 meters (10,825 feet) which is scattered to the north. The seismic station PCG shows the internal tremor which is the product of the rise of magma and gases at the surface. No sounds of explosions or emission are heard.

Popocatepetl , Mexico :

Over the past 24 hours, through the seismic recordings of the Popocatepetl volcano monitoring system, 20 hours of low to medium amplitude of harmonic tremor have been identified. This tremor was recorded in packets with durations ranging from one minute to one and a half hours. In addition eight exhalations of low intensity accompanied by steam and gas and a small explosion at 21:51 yesterday were identified.



All night long an incandescence could be seen above the crater.

At the time of this report a slight but continuous emission of steam and gas which is sometimes bluish is observed. The other monitoring parameters remain unchanged.

CENAPRED asked not to approach the volcano and in particular the crater.
The volcanic alert semaphore of Popocatepetl Volcano is located in Amarillo Phase 2.
