Volcanic Activity Summary: Pavlof Volcano began erupting abruptly this afternoon, sending an ash cloud to 20,000 ft ASL as reported by a pilot. As of 4:18 pm AKDT (00:18 UTC), ash was reportedly moving northward from the volcano. Seismicity began to increase from background levels at about 3:53 pm (23:53 UTC) with quick onset of continuous tremor, which remains at high levels. AVO is raising the Aviation Color Code to RED and the Volcano Alert Level to WARNING.

The view from the FAA webcamera is obscured by clouds this afternoon, and there are no current satellite images. AVO is monitoring the situation closely and issue further updates at the situation develops.

Remarks: Pavlof Volcano is a snow- and ice-covered stratovolcano located on the southwestern end of the Alaska Peninsula about 953 km (592 mi) southwest of Anchorage. The volcano is about 7 km (4.4 mi) in diameter and has active vents on the north and east sides close to the summit. With over 40 historic eruptions, it is one of the most consistently active volcanoes in the Aleutian arc. Eruptive activity is generally characterized by sporadic Strombolian lava fountaining continuing for a several-month period. Ash plumes as high as 49,000 ft ASL have been generated by past eruptions of Pavlof, and during the 2013 eruption, ash plumes as high as 27,000 feet above sea level extending as much as 500 km (310 mi) beyond the volcano were generated. The nearest community, Cold Bay, is located 60 km (37 miles) to the southwest of Pavlof.

Masaya , Nicaragua :

A group of researchers from the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) conducted an exploration visit to the Masaya volcano, located in southeastern Nicaragua, in eruptive activity since last December.
« Today, the INETER performs an activity on the ground to closely observe the phenomenon, measuring the temperature and ensuring the maintenance of monitoring equipment installed on the volcano,«  said the coordinator of the Communication and Council citizenship, Rosario Murillo, to the official media.

She explained that the Masaya volcano, located 23 kilometers to the southeast of Managua, currently shows a slight decrease of its volcanic tremor.
The crater of the Masaya volcano, known by the name of « Santiago », has been active since last December.
The volcano is located in the Parque Nacional del Volcán Masaya, which is surrounded by a tropical dry forest, growing on porous rocks of ancient eruptions.
A team of National Geographic explorers scientists filmed a documentary on the lava lake that has formed in the volcano, as reported by the government.

Masaya Volcano is one of the seven active volcanoes in Nicaragua and since 1520 has recorded at least 18 periods of different activities, including volcanic eruptions between 1772 and 1820, according to official information.
Experts from the US Geological Survey (USGS) recommended the development and the development of risk maps illustrated for Masaya and Momotombo volcano, also in activity to reduce the risk to neighboring populations.

The Strombolian type eruption of Fuego volcano , which began early yesterday morning, began to lose energy and in that time, the eruption ends, leaving the remains of lava flows that, in the hours or the days will come to disappear.
It was observed in the crater, weak explosions, some moderate, accompanied by fine ash columns up to 4600 meters, moving to the southwest and west of the volcanoover a distance of 10 kilometers.
Some of these explosions accompanied by moderate rumbling sound, heard more than 12 kilometers from the volcanic perimeter as well as fine ash falling on villages of Panimache I and II, Morelia, Sangre de Cristo, are reported.
This eruption is over, however, it is recommended not to stand in the canyons around the volcano.



For this, INSIVUMEH recommends:
A CONRED: Due to the end of the eruption, to implement the necessary level of vigilance and to continue monitoring the activity of the Fuego volcano.
At the Directorate General of Civil Aviation: Take precautions with air traffic, because there is still diffuse ash remains at a distance of 15 kilometers to the west and southwest, taking into account that there are changes in the wind direction
during the day.

Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 32,800 ft (10 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.



A growth of the lava dome continues (a viscous lava flow reveal in the northern its part), strong fumarole activity, ash explosions, hot avalanches and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompany this process. According to video data, an incandescence of the dome lava blocks and moderate gas-steam activity were observing all week. Satellite data by KVERT showed an intensive thermal anomaly over the lava dome all week, with the exception of 20-21 March, when the volcano was obscured by clouds. An ash plume was extending for about 38 km to the north from the volcano on 23 March.
