Bulletin activity extraordinary of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, November 8, 2015.

Subject: Activity Bulletin of volcano Nevado del Ruiz. The Yellow level of activity or (III) remains: changes in the behavior of volcanic activity.

Regarding the monitoring of the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, the SERVICIO Geologico COLOMBIANO through the OBSERVATORIO VULCANOLÓGICO Y SISMOLÓGICO OF MANIZALES, reports that:

On November 8, 2015 at 22:48 (local time), a volcano-tectonic earthquake, combined with the fracturing of the rock inside the volcano, with a magnitude of 3.1 ML, located in the north of crater Arenas was recorded at a depth of 3.79 km. This event was reported as felt by the inhabitants of the area of influence of the volcano.

 

 

The location obtained by the OVSManizales is:

Latitude: 54.64 ‘N
Length: 75˚ 18.93 ‘W
Depth: 3.79 km
Magnitude: 3.1 ML

It is recommended to the community to continue to keep abreast of changes in the current activity of the volcano.
The  SERVICIO Geologico COLOMBIANO through the OBSERVATORIO VULCANOLÓGICO Y SISMOLÓGICO OF MANIZALES, closely following the evolution of the volcanic phenomenon and will continue to report timely to the changes that may occur.

Ubinas, Peru :

LP type Earthquakes associated with a fluid movement continue to be registered, this high seismicity tends to decline especially during the last days. The average attendance rate recorded was 472 LP / day. November 04 was the day or the occurrence of these events increased with 754 LP. The energy values rose on November 7 reaching 47 MJ.
Regarding the hybrid seismic activity related to the rise of magma, they have continued to increase until November 4, when there were up to 64 events. This activity was accompanied by VT events, indicating an increase in pressure inside the volcano. As regards the energy levels, these values were low.

The type of VT seismicity (earthquakes type fracturing), decreased up to 06 November. However, the last three days a slight increase is observed. The energy values were lower; However, on November 9, it was recorded 12 MJ of energy.
Tremor type events relating to the emission of ash have accumulated in this period  22 hours of presence, particularly on 06, 07 and 08 of this month.
On November 5 an exhalation, followed by an explosion, which occurred at 5:16 p.m. pm (GMT) was recorded. The energy of the explosion was 12 MJ duly reported by the IGPOVS.

This last week , through the images obtained by the camera Campbell Scientific, installed by the IGP near the Ubinas volcano has been registered the emission of ash and magmatic gases from the volcano.
As stated in the last technical report, the question of magmatic gas was one of the most important aspects of the previous period. These emissions have continued on November 03 and 04. On 05 November at 12:16 local time, the OVS seismic stations registered a moderate explosion, which ejected ash at a height of 2200 m. After this event, the ashes continued to be ejected by pulses of  tremor activity  , this has been observed until November 8. From November 9, intense clouds covered the entire volcano area.

Fuego, Guatemala :

Intense eruption and pyroclastic flows of Fuego in Guatemala. The evacuation of the surrounding agricultural workers and employees of the « finca La Reunion » takes place.

a peak in activity with lava fountains and lava flows   occurred at the volcano recently. It seems that activity with increasing effusion rate began during the night Sunday-Monday, as the volcano observatory reported a new lava flow on the southern flank the next morning. It was headed towards the Las Lajas and El Jute drainages and had reached 1500 m length by Monday morning.
By Monday evening 21:15, the flow was almost 2 km long and intermittent strombolian explosions at the summit had merged into pulsating low lava fountains, generating an ash plume that rose approx. 1.5 km and drifted 20 km west and southwest.

 

 

Due to the increased activity of the Volcan de Fuego and pyroclastic flow generation that came down in the afternoon, there are reported ash fall near the volcano affecting the populations of Panimache I, Morelia, Hagia Sophia, Porvenir Panimache II, Sangre de Cristo, San Pedro Yepocapa, Rochelle, Ceylon, San Andrés Osuna, El Zapote, Siquinalá, Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, Mazatenango, Patulul and Cocales.
The OVFGO reports the pyroclastic flow generation continues on the southern flank of the volcano, to the canyon Las Lajas and El Jute, which, in their descent raise a thick column of gray ash to a height of 5,300 meters, moving to the South , southwest and west of the volcanic complex.

 


The lava emission continue , , forming a downward flow south to Las Lajas Canyon with a length of 2,500 meters.
In the village of Sangre de Cristo, located in the west of the volcanic complex, it is reported the presence of ash and rain falls, the combination of these factors leads to the formation of sludge.
It is important to note that at this time the wind has a southwest trend, it is likely that ash falls were reported in the departments of Escuintla and Suchitepequez, as indicated in the plan of dispersion of the ashes, although the presence of occasional rain was a motif for reduction of the dispersion zone.
Municipalities and the cities must protect water sources from contamination due to the presence of ash.
