Momotombo,  Nicaragua :

Momotombo volcano presents new seismic activity.

The Momotombo volcano in León, presented on Friday 30 October a series of eight quakes, the biggest of them with a magnitude of 3.2 Richter, reported the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER).

The first tremors of magnitude 2.7 Richter, occurred at 05:37 am, while the fifth, the highest was 3.2 Richter scale and occurred at 07:38 am, according to INET. The last earthquake registered so far is 1.9 Richter was at 9:12 this morning.

The magnitude of the other earthquakes remained between 2.3 and 2.7 Richter Richter, according to monitoring Ineter.El Momotombo, 1,297 meters high, is located north of Lake Managua. This same volcano has experienced similar events several times a year since the earthquake of magnitude 6.2 Richter April 10, 2014.

Momotombo is a young, 1297-m-high stratovolcano that rises prominently above the NW shore of Lake Managua, forming one of Nicaragua’s most familiar landmarks. Momotombo began growing about 4500 years ago at the SE end of the Marrabios Range and consists of a somma from an older edifice that is surmounted by a symmetrical younger cone with a 150 x 250 m wide summit crater. Young lava flows from Momotombo have flowed down the NW flank into the 4-km-wide Monte Galán caldera. The youthful cone of Momotombito forms a 391-m-high island offshore in Lake Managua. Momotombo has a long record of strombolian eruptions, punctuated by occasional larger explosive activity. The latest eruption, in 1905, produced a lava flow that traveled from the summit to the lower NE base. A small black plume was seen above the crater after an April 10, 1996 earthquake, but later observations noted no significant changes in the crater. A major geothermal field is located on the southern flank of the volcano.

Turrialba, Costa Rica :

 

The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of the National University of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) released images and video on Friday of the recent activity of Turrialba Volcano, which last week continued to spew ash, gases and incandescent rocks .

Images were obtained using two cameras, normal and thermal , located near the crater. They show hot gases and rocks during a small eruption recorded on October 26, expelled rocks (ballistic) up to 40 centimeters (16 inches) and weighing up to 1 kg, which were found at 400 meters from the crater.

Rocks are registering temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius (932 °F). OVSCORI collected some that registered over 140 °C (284 °F) an hour after they landed. Ash and vapor eruptions resumed two weeks ago, following a brief period of low activity, but volcanologists say they are part of the volcano’s normal cycle.
Eruptions this week were mostly brief, but one recorded at about 5 a.m. Friday lasted for 20 minutes, OVSICORI reported. Turrialba Volcano, located 50 kilometers east of San José, has seen constant activity for about five years.

According to OVSICORI, Turrialba’s most recent eruptive cycle began on Oct. 10 with several tremors and a strong eruption on Oct. 16 that launched ash 800 meters into the air. Eruptions restarted on Oct. 23, and the volcano has since maintained intermittent activity.
The National Emergency Commission keeps a two-kilometer perimeter around the crater closed to tourists. Currently only experts from OVSICORI and the National Seismological Network are allowed in the crater’s area, usually to take measurements and for cleaning their equipment.

Sinabung, Indonésia:

Based on information from PVMBG, and analyses of satellite imagery and wind data, the Darwin VAAC reported that on 21 October an ash plume from Sinabung rose to an altitude of 6.1 (20,000 ft) a.s.l.

 

 

An eruption of Mount Sinabung, on October 31, 2015 at 14:45 pm, issued a high ash column of 4600 m, with hot clouds of pyroclastic avalanches sliding towards the South-East, for a distance of 3500 m and to the southsoutheast, on 2000 m, the wind slowly dissipating ash to the northwest. Seismicity parameters have declined somewhat, but still features a permanent volcanic seismic activity (VA) indicating the permanent pressure or supply of new magma. The strain measurement method by ungkitan (inclinometer) showed an upward trend (inflation) at a low rate.

 


The values of SO2 flux measured during the period between July and October 5, 2015 are below 500 tonnes / day, while the last measurement in September 2015 recorded an increase of more than 500 tonnes / day. The temperature showed no significant change, but the CO2 gas content shows a pattern of increase since the beginning of August 2015. The visually dominant activity has the form of thick white smoke and the accumulation of lava dome at the top, often followed by hot pyroclastic clouds avalanche.
