Piton de la Fournaise, La Réunion :

Beginning of a new phase effusive which began during night.

From 4:00 p.m., October 29, , the tremor recorded by the instruments of the Observatory has gradually intensified. It is first again become permanent, then gradually increased. A new phase effusive has started shortly after 20:00. In early night glows reflecting the presence of lava were observed in the cone formed in the early phases of the eruption. Shortly after 4:00, the activity has been further intensified to become comparable to that of last Saturday (morning).

The recorded signals show that the activity is concentrated again at the crater that formed early in the eruption, near the Rivals crater in the southwestern part of the Enclos Fouqué. The activity is currently (October 30th 6:50) observable from the path leading to the Piton of Bert.

Since October 29 4:00 p.m. we have a clear increase in the background noise (which we interpret as a residual tremor).
From 4H in the morning approximately , the tremor is again became continuous and relatively strong.


Just like the previous episode, the recovery is done without magmatic intrusion. The conduit is most likely remained open between the two events with a gas stream which has maintained the background noise. The increase in gas flow and pressure have resulted again the arrival of the magma to the surface.  At present we have not observed flow of lava flows but only the presence of projection.

Colima, Mexique :

Patricia hurricane caused heavy rains on the coast and in the volcanic region of Colima where the risk was higher against the possibility of landslides on the slopes of the volcano.
An estimation shows that 200 families in the volcanic region were affected by the fall of these avalanches.
The rain was sufficient to mobilize 12.5 million cubic meters of ash that descended at a speed of 20 km / h, through the ravines, rivers and streams.
In the city of Quesería, in the municipality of Cuauhtemoc, these avalanches of mud and stone have exceeded riverbeds, invading the streets.




The consistency of a lahar is like liquid cement and its resistance was able to break the sidewalks, leaving hundreds of trapped vehicles.
In addition, the mud is entered in the houses, damaging furniture.
People affected have helped one another all day and night for cleaning.
To remove these mudslides in the streets, he had to use excavators.

Cotopaxi, Equateur :

During the last week, the total seismic activity of the volcano Cotopaxi showed a slight decrease compared to previous weeks. Seismicity is characterized by the sporadic presence of seismic signals related to emissions, called tremor of emission and the generation of volcano tectonic earthquakes (VT), who came to present an average of 40-50 events / day. The magnitude of VTs events is generally less than 1, but it was recorded a magnitude 2.7  on October 14.


Locating events of the volcano Cotopaxi on October 1 to 27, 2015. The vast majority of localized events correspond to the volcano tectonic earthquakes Type VT (blue triangles) and some type LP (pink circles). All events are located beneath the crater at depths below 12 km (although most are within 9 km below the crater).

As in previous weeks the energy associated with the activity has not increased significantly in recent weeks and slightly remains above background levels. It also produces small occasional explosions.

The station of the inclinometer VC1 (northeast side) continues on the same trend that has taken place over the last month, coinciding with the decline of earthquakes, especially the VT type. The extent of the deformation composed, recorded by the station remains stable during this period. In general, the deformation is lower than in previous months. The deformation level is still low, compared to deformation patterns recorded on other volcanoes.

SO2 emissions:
Dated on October 17, the maximum values ranged from 450 to 6600 tons / day.

Ash fall:
Last ash fall was reported by spotters and published in our report of 19 October. It was reported that there were slight falls in the sectors of Aloasi, Aloag, Jambelí El Chaupi and Tanicuchi, and especially in a region North-east and west of the volcano. Subsequently, during the clear nights of 25 and 26, using a thermal camera IGEPN, it was observed a certain level of brightness of the crater, which is the result of radiation reflection in the gases leaving the crater.

The ashes were re-collected October 20 include those of the ash fall from the beginning of the month and have a high concentration of microlites and dense components, as well as free crystals. There is little presence of vesicular fragments (type slag or pumice) that could be considered as a sign of juvenile magma.
