Seismicity:

During September 2015, the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, responsible for the operation and analysis of the Yellowstone Seismic Network, reports that 112 earthquakes were located in the Yellowstone National Park (YNP) region. The largest event was a small earthquake of magnitude 2.2 on September 1, at 03:27 AM MDT, located about 11 miles northeast of Old Faithful, WY.

 

 

September 2015 seismicity was characterized by two separate small earthquake swarms:

1) A small series of 24 earthquakes occurred September 4. The largest swarm earthquake (magnitude 1.5) occurred September 4, 05:14 AM MDT, located 7 miles south of West Thumb, WY.

2) A small series of 22 earthquakes mostly occurred September 24 and 25th with one event on the 29th. The largest earthquake in the series (magnitude 1.6) occurred September 24, 11:14 PM MDT, located 6 miles north northeast of West Yellowstone, MT.

Yellowstone earthquake activity in September remains at low background levels.

GPS stations in Yellowstone continue to show little or no ground movement.

Popocatepetl, Mexique :

In the last 24 hours the seismic records of the surveillance system at Popocatépetl volcano registered on the one hand 23 low-intensity exhalations. Besides were recorded four explosions: yesterday at 16:24 h., and today at 00:24, 03:17 y 07:39 h., with a weak emission of steam and gas that winds carried northeasterly .

Along some lapses of the night was observed slight incandescence, increasing when main exhalations .
From dawn and up to the time of this report has been observed a faint but non-stop emission of steam and gas gas that winds carried northeasterly .

Other monitoring parameter remain unchanged.
CENAPRED emphasizes that people SHOULD NOT go near the volcano.
This type of activity is included within the scenarios Volcanic Traffic Light Yellow Phase 2.

Cotopaxi, Equateur :

Towards 19.00 (Local Time, on 02/10) was clearly observed brightness in the crater of Cotopaxi volcano. This type of activity indicates the progressive realization of the scenario described in the report of upgrading No. 18. This brightness is due to high temperature of magma gases. This could be a premonition of a new eruptive phase characterized by low to moderate explosions that could eject incandescent blocks from the crater, this limited to areas near. This activity could also be the beginning of new emissions and ash fall. With this type and this level of activity, it can not produce large lahars or even moderate size.

On September 29, with the logistical support of an aircraft MICS, a survey was held from the Tababela airport to the Cotopaxi volcano in a Twin Otter FAE (452).

it was confirmed that it was observed on previous occasions, the presence of water and humidity in the ice in contact with the ground surface, where jets of water are formed, which run on the side, for the drains of the summit of the volcano. Previous reports have also mentioned that the thaw could eventually generate small secondary lahars. The good weather helped to make the most of temperature measurements of thermal anomalies identified on the volcano. Most recorded, it was possible to observe changes in the inner crater where a vent which has several hundred meters down from the peak, and the base could not be estimated because of its large depth, was clearly identified. He was taken maximum apparent temperature measurements (TMA) of the inner crater and pulsed emissions observed during the flight. The highest values of the TMA corresponded to the top of the gas emission and the value was 157.7 ° C. The measured value is smaller than the 3 September, where a value had been obtained, at 200, 3 ° C
